The Washington Post's Feckless 'Fact-Check'
Ryan’s sorry "apology"
The entire GOP campaign rests on a bed of lies. Even their “apologies” are lies. The other day Ryan apologized for appearing to have blamed Obama for closing the Janesville GM plant. Actually, Ryan did no such thing. His false accusation was the Obama broke a promise made at Janesville: that federally financed retooling of the plant would keep it open for 100 years. Without providing a timeline, the implication was that Obama broke his promise when implementing the auto bailout.
Of course, GM shuttered the plant before Obama took office. What Ryan’s lie, and dishonest apology, obfuscates is that as a local congressman he apparently failed to make the case, or even attempt, to resuscitate the moribund factory. One of the most massive lies is that Romney will make the United States energy-independent by exploiting domestic energy sources, particularly oil. Does he promise that all [or the vast majority] of the oil will be reserved for domestic use? Of course not; that restriction would rob the oil barons of maximum profits. The oil will be sold on the international market, at world-wide prices.
