Rep. Jamie Raskin, a professor of constitutional law at American University, is a member of the Maryland State Senate, where he serves as majority whip. He recently led the successful floor fight in the Senate to repeal the death penalty in his state.
Raskin is Vice-Chair of the House Administration Committee, Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution. Raskin is the Caucus Leadership Representative for the 116th Congress and was appointed to serve as a Senior Whip for the 116th Congress. Prior to his time in Congress, Raskin was a three-term State Senator in Maryland, where he also served as the Senate Majority Whip. Raskin led the successful floor fight in the Senate to repeal the death penalty in his state. He authored several books, including Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus the American People and We the Students: Supreme Court Cases For and About America’s Students.
