Eighteen years after the bloodless declaration of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union and years after the Ukrainian government published preferred English spellings for its country, The Nation is still using the Russian transliteration for the capital of Ukraine. It's "Kyiv," not "Kiev." Say, how are things in New Amsterdam?
