The Case of Julian Assange

Assange is being defamed... and you know it

Ms.Pollitt: How in the world can you seriously entertain this detailed argument for or against Julilan Assange? The character assassination is both predictable and actually welcome, in my opinion. He earned it from his great works in exposing so much rot, from Africa (warped medical experiments on African children to sell Pfizer's latest drug-scheme) to the denuding of this country's unbridled blackmail and mass slaughter (15,000 uncounted Iraqis are now finally counted). Of course he is charged with rape—arguable allegations from women who actually stayed with him after the alleged act(s).

Huh? Your article is self-serving and frankly reactionary.

Don't let him get away with this!

Katha! What gives? Stand up for yourself and respond to David Walsh at WSWS! Don't let him get away with this! And don't hide behind any "non-response" imposed by your editor. Please!

"Innocent until proven guilty," anyone?

Dear Ms. Pollitt, your attacks against Michael Moore and others, who see in the rape allegations and efforts to extradite Assange the machinations of the US to shut down Wikileaks, are unjustified. Do you really believe that Michael Moore has sympathy with rapists? He and many others believe that there the rape charges are just a pretext. They also rightly believe that if there was sexual misconduct, a proper investigation into them should occur. No one in this group wants to see Assange immune from legitimate criminal charges.

When did you join the dark side?

I guess her name is Pollitt (because I couldn't find it anywhere except in a reply) and she is obviously a lunatic and I guess we needn't try Julian Assange as Pollitt has tried, convicted and sentenced him for a crime that he isn't even charged with. So much for journalism in The Nation, huh? So you retracted one of the CIA spooks' name after consideration, but not this piece of garbage. Love your jackboots and armband. Needless to say, I won't be subscribing to this right-wing trash!

The Case of Julian Assange

Accusation as proof of guilt

It's incredible that in this day, anyone merely accused of rape is already guilty by default before any due process. Just being accused is deemed sufficient evidence. We are regressing to medieval consciousness here, and pretty soon we will be resorting to public torture in extremis, where if the accused survives the ordeal they will be deemed innocent. That a senior writer at The Nation is guilty of said fact is an obsenity in itself. Feminist outrage is perfectly apropos in the larger context of insight into our collective (un)consciousness, but you cannot apply it here a priori before any of the facts are presented in a fair fashion in a fair court of law. We all know how this American administration will deal without prejudice if it gets its hands on Julian Assange.
