The country’s name has always been Iran since the plateau is called Iran. It was called Persia in the West since the language that the majority of Iranians speak is Persian.

With all due respect to the author who I have always admired, I really expected a better research for this article. How can one even compare Iran with Iraq or any other regional country for that matter? I really encourage the author to take a trip to Iran and talk to ordinary Iranians - not just the so-called intellectuals. There are *many* political movements within Iran and every issue is discussed and analyzed. Do you see the same kind of discussion in the regional countries? Of course there are censorships etc. But what do you expect of a government when it's been attacked by the empire on a daily basis?
