Why Michael McFaul will fail as US ambassador to Moscow
I fully subscribe to the points Steven Cohen so ably makes in his critique of the “reset” policy, showing it up for the empty public relations exercise that it is. In my blog entry “Can a U.S. Ambassador to Russia be expelled? The pending case of Michael McFaul,” I take his analysis one step further by looking at the generally recognized “author” of reset. Obama adviser on Russia Dr. Michael McFaul awaits Senate confirmation as the next US ambassador to Moscow. If McFaul builds on his instincts and experience when he takes office in Moscow, he may well be the first US ambassador to be declared persona non grata since George Kennan was barred entry in 1952.
