Briefing: Bill Fletcher Jr. and Richard Kim on the One Nation March

The One Nation march should not not simply be a nice day out for progressives, says Bill Fletcher Jr.—it needs to be a turning of the tide, a change of course away from anger and toward solidarity.

"We need a grassroots coalition that’s comparable to the Tea Party movement in many respects. It needs to be fairly decentralized, easy for people to join and it needs to be audacious," says author and long-time activist Bill Fletcher Jr. After the success of this past weekend’s One Nation Working Together rally in Washington, DC, says Fletcher, the only way forward is to build a focused and inclusive movement. This rally, he notes, needs to not simply be a nice day out for progressives—it needs to be a turning of the tide, a reversal of course away from anger and toward solidarity.

Fletcher joins guest host Richard Kim of The Nation to discuss the rally, the media’s reaction to it and what it really means to create an audacious movement for social justice.

Your support makes stories like this possible

From illegal war on Iran to an inhumane fuel blockade of Cuba, from AI weapons to crypto corruption, this is a time of staggering chaos, cruelty, and violence.

Unlike other publications that parrot the views of authoritarians, billionaires, and corporations, The Nation publishes stories that hold the powerful to account and center the communities too often denied a voice in the national media—stories like the one you’ve just read.

Each day, our journalism cuts through lies and distortions, contextualizes the developments reshaping politics around the globe, and advances progressive ideas that oxygenate our movements and instigate change in the halls of power.

This independent journalism is only possible with the support of our readers. If you want to see more urgent coverage like this, please donate to The Nation today.
