In this segment from CNN, Congressman John Tierney (D-MA) discusses his subcommittee’s investigation into charges that the Department of Defense is essentially bribing Taliban warlords so US supply lines can safely travel through Afghanistan. The investigation was sparked by Aram Roston’s expose in The Nation Magazine, “How the US Funds the Taliban,” an investigation into the ways in which the US government is paying the very forces that American troops are fighting in Afghanistan. “This is not appropriate, not right, and we’ve got to get to the bottom of it,” the congressman says.

Roston’s reporting was supported by the Nation Institute Investigative Fund.
