The New York Times recently reported that the CIA has acquired even more evidence that Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, ordered the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi. But President Trump continues to side with the Saudis, claiming that arms deals are more important than protecting human rights.

In the wake of Trump’s outrageous defense, Congress is closer than ever to ending US complicity in Saudi Arabia’s crimes, including support for the brutal proxy war in Yemen. This week’s Take Action Now offers ways to push legislators to defund the violence and help people who have been displaced by the conflict.

Take Action Now gives you three meaningful actions you can take each week whatever your schedule. You can sign up here to get these actions and more in your inbox every Tuesday.

GOT NO TIME TO SPARE?

Though Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen for years with US support, leading to growing famine and devastation, few people in the United States understand the conflict or how our tax dollars support it. Watch this video to get up to speed and share it on social media with the hashtag #TalkAboutYemen, then sign this petition demanding that the US halt aid to Saudi Arabia.

GOT SOME TIME?

In a surprising and welcome rebuke to President Trump, the Senate voted last week to consider a War Powers resolution that would terminate US support for the Saudi bombing campaign. Before a final decision is reached this week, we need to flood our senators with calls urging them to put an end to the destruction in Yemen. This is a bipartisan issue, so contacting your senators in whatever state you live can be meaningful.

READY TO DIG IN?

As the conflict in Yemen has destroyed cities and forced villages into starvation, Yemeni citizens have scattered around the world as refugees, including in the United States. The International Rescue Committee, one of the leading groups that aid with refugee resettlement, offers a variety of ways to help refugees as a volunteer in your own community. These include training to become a family mentor or tax prep counselor, advocating for your workplace to hire refugees, and housing refugees in emergency situations.

Thank you for reading The Nation!

We hope you enjoyed the story you just read, just one of the many incisive, deeply-reported articles we publish daily. Now more than ever, we need fearless journalism that shifts the needle on important issues, uncovers malfeasance and corruption, and uplifts voices and perspectives that often go unheard in mainstream media.

Throughout this critical election year and a time of media austerity and renewed campus activism and rising labor organizing, independent journalism that gets to the heart of the matter is more critical than ever before. Donate right now and help us hold the powerful accountable, shine a light on issues that would otherwise be swept under the rug, and build a more just and equitable future.

For nearly 160 years, The Nation has stood for truth, justice, and moral clarity. As a reader-supported publication, we are not beholden to the whims of advertisers or a corporate owner. But it does take financial resources to report on stories that may take weeks or months to properly investigate, thoroughly edit and fact-check articles, and get our stories into the hands of readers.

Donate today and stand with us for a better future. Thank you for being a supporter of independent journalism.
