The Agony and Ecstasy—and 'Disgrace'—of Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs and his fantasies
Not sure what Steve Jobs is referring to when he implies that he invented lots of stuff, but—for instance—neither he nor even his company Apple invented the iPod. They stole the invention from a British fellow who could not afford to continue his patent. They contracted the name to a freelancer, they bought the operating system from Sun, and numerous other companies beat Apple to the marketplace with a digital player. The only thing Jobs “invented” as far as the iPod is concerned was the marketing strategy, no different at all from the role played by Bill Gates at Microsoft. Steve was definitely a great salesman, but that doesn’t make him a Mahatma or even an Einstein.
