The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 should be called the Cover-Up Presidential Malfeasance and Congressional Complicity Act. Never before has our federal government more strongly asserted that we, the people, have no right to know what it is doing in our name.
I have often been astonished and appalled at the arrogance of Republicans and the cowardice of Democrats in our federal government during the last quarter-century, but never more than now. The only thing our elected representatives at the federal level seem to be able to do well is scurry to conceal their own incompetence. But Aziz Huq has brought it to light again, in all its ugliness. For this, at least, I am grateful.
