Ten percent of us own 80 percent of the country's wealth. We owe nearly $11 trillion in foreign debt. One in ten kids are homeless. Fifty million Americans have no healthcare. Thousands waded in sewage in New Orleans and the media blamed them for eating stuff from closed stores that was floating around in crap. We have to go to China, a Marxist economy, hat in hand to bail us out. And we still have idiots running around yelling, "More for the rich."

It is probably unfortunate for Obama that he took office so quickly after the storm broke. Actually that means that this administration will become the focus of the majority of the popular frustration.

This opens the way for a massive surge of right-wing populism to express economic discontent. I expect this surge to remain within the normal American democratic traditions, like it did with Reagan.

If McCain had won, there'd be a major left-wing reaction, but the timing was too early now.
