C.S. Lewis was a "member of the Flat Earth Society"? Are you seriously suggesting Lewis believed the Earth to be flat? On what grounds? Surely not the fictional fantasy geography of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"? May I suggest a rereading of chapter 5 of The Discarded Image?

Fascinating piece about a man whose writing influenced my childhood and adolescence by launching me into a world of imagination. I was too young to interpret the Christian analogies, but reveled in C.S. Lewis's gripping stories. Revisiting the books today with my children, I can no longer re-create the magic--or get past the mid-century British perspectives. We did enjoy a wonderful book that was written by a modern writer that updated some of the themes Lewis essayed: Where Angels Fear to Tread, by Yolanda Pascal. The children loved the story, and I was intrigued by the allegory.
