This article should be in the editorial page of every responsible newspaper across the country--unfortunately, there are none. The current affair is similar to the Republican administrations of the 1980s, and the S&L bailouts of those times. It is amazing how, despite their hardline conservative values, the Republican leadership has no problem capitulating to socialism when it comes to the needs of their friends in the corporate world, yet working America is told to suck it up and stop whining. For as long as the cash cow remains, these upstanding, independent fiscal conservatives will gladly milk it. To add insult to injury, just watch how much the mortgaging consumer will be gouged over the next few years as these criminals try to recoup their excessive wealth.

I was, of course, interested in former Senator Gramm's contribution to this mess, but McCain has made no secret of his support for the economic anarchy of "free trade" and "laissez-faire" capitalism. It is therefore no surprise that Gramm would be one of his advisers.

This is a fantastic article and everyone should read it. I am also distressed that whiny bankers (complaining about diminished returns) get direct, immediate aid from the government, when mere "people" (complaining about food availability and quality, the growing pollution in our environment, human rights violations or a number of other things) are marginalized on a daily basis.
