Los Angeles-based freelance writer Ed Rampell was named after Edward
R. Murrow because of the broadcaster’s exposé of Senator Joe
McCarthy. Rampell is a film critic and historian who co-wrote Made
in Paradise: Hollywood’s Films of Hawaii and the South Seas and
Pearl Harbor in the Movies. He has written for Variety,
Television Quarterly, Cineaste, New Times L.A. and
other publications.
On September 17, PBS aired Darkness at High Noon: The Carl Foreman Documents. On the surface, this documentary is a posthumous homage to a worthy blacklisted screenwriter.
