Nation sports writer Dave Zirin appears on Morning Joe to discuss Tiger Woods’s return to golf at the Masters Golf Tournament. Clearly, Zirin says, regardless of Woods’s adultery scandal, his appearance on the Masters will raise ratings to the level of the NFL Playoff. Moreover, Woods’s image is likely to benefit.

"What Tiger’s doing is very smart because the scandal was never going to end until he reminded everyone why they love him in the first place," says Zirin. "And that’s Tiger Woods with a club in his hand."

Woods’s earlier decision to hire former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer also raises questions on Woods’s attempts to revive his image, but Zirin jokes Fleisher’s experience with Mark McGuire, Brett Farve–even the Iraq War—will help sell Tiger Woods back to the American people.

From Minneapolis to Venezuela, from Gaza to Washington, DC, this is a time of staggering chaos, cruelty, and violence.

Unlike other publications that parrot the views of authoritarians, billionaires, and corporations, The Nation publishes stories that hold the powerful to account and center the communities too often denied a voice in the national media—stories like the one you’ve just read.

Each day, our journalism cuts through lies and distortions, contextualizes the developments reshaping politics around the globe, and advances progressive ideas that oxygenate our movements and instigate change in the halls of power.
