The election of Mauricio Funes as president of El Salvador on March 15 marked the end of the 20-year-rule of the Nationalist Republican Party (ARENA). In his first interview for an English-speaking audience, Funes discussed the meaning of his presidency, immigration policy and the relationship of his country with the United States.
