In a secret, underground prison in Mogadishu, Somalia, prisoners have no access to due process, international organizations or the outside world. The Red Cross had no idea that it existed until recently. And the most shocking part: the CIA makes use of the prison to interrogate detainees. Despite this egregious violation of human rights, most mass media are ignoring the recently exposed story, and those who are acknowledging it are spinning it in a way that that perpetuates the propaganda, rather than the truth.
Jeremy Scahill joins Keith Olbermann on Countdown to discuss the on-the-ground realities of the Somali secret prison as well as the media’s reaction. For more, read Scahill’s article, The CIA’s Secret Sites in Somalia.
