James Miller, chair of the Liberal Studies program at the New School for Social Research, is the author of, among other books, Democracy Is in the Streets: From Port Huron to the Siege of Chicago and The Passion of Michel Foucault. He is currently writing Examined Lives: From Socrates to Nietzsche.
