Gerardo Otero is a professor of sociology and international studies at Simon Fraser University in Canada. His books include Farewell to the Peasantry? Political Class Formation in Rural Mexico (Westview Press, 1999; Routledge, 2018) and The Neoliberal Diet: Healthy Profits, Unhealthy People (University of Texas Press 2018) and his forthcoming book, coauthored with Efe Can Gürcan, Collective Empowerment in Latin America: Indigenous Peasant Movements and Political Transformation (Routledge).
