David Kipen served as the National Endowment for the Arts' director of literature under both Democratic and Republican administrations. He teaches on the University of California, Los Angeles’s full-time writing faculty and is the founder and artistic director of a nonprofit, bilingual, decade-old free storefront lending library called Libros Schmibros.
