Azad Akın Arslan was born and raised in Bakur (North Kurdistan, Turkey) and is a former teacher who taught philosophy in Kurdish cities. Now a citizen of the United States, he is fluent in Turkish and Kurdish and closely follows developments in Kurdistan and the broader Middle East.
