The Nation seeks an Associate Editor. Candidates should be news and politics junkies with the ability to edit everything from short op-eds and comments to long-form features and essays. The Associate Editor will edit the front of the book for a weekly print magazine, as well as work with regular contributors and freelancers online. Aggressive, creative, forward-thinking assigning and editing is prized. At least 3 years of relevant experience is required, as is the ability to work on multiple stories in a fast-paced environment. Excellent headline writing is a must. Candidates should have a firm grasp of current events, progressive politics and movements, and intellectual debates and ideas.
Applicants must be based in New York City, or willing to relocate or commute daily. The office is small and collegial, and collaborating with other editors is prized.
