A Constitutional amendment is on the November 8 ballot in Mississippi which wants to amend the Bill of Rights to declare a fertilized human egg as a legal person. If it passes, it would go far towards criminalizing abortion, birth control and even in vitro fertilization.

The Nation‘s Melissa Harris-Perry joined MSNBC’s Sound Off today to explain the damaging impact of the amendment to women’s access to reproductive healthcare and birth control. The content of the amendment, she points out, is "scientifically completely false." The passing of the amendment will give the state the power to intervene in women’s personal choices and infringe upon their reproductive rights, Harris-Perry argues.
