The Vietnamese-American author Viet Thanh Nguyen’s first novel, The Sympathizer, a spy thriller set against the backdrop of the Vietnam war, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, among numerous other awards. His recently-released The Committed is the sequel to his celebrated debut and has been receiving widespread notice coast to coast. The Sympathizer established Nguyen as both a literary star and an advocate for displaced people around the world. Nguyen is a professor of English, American studies and ethnicity, and comparative literature at the University of Southern California as well as a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times.
