Natural gas has long been touted as an ideal alternative to oil as we struggle to make the transition to clean energy sources. But what’s been neglected are the severe health and environmental problems associated with new and unregulated natural gas drilling technology commonly referred to as “fracking,” or hydraulic fracturing.

Renowned theater and film director Josh Fox set out across the country to explore the horrors spawned by the practice of fracking, shooting a gripping filmGasland—that won Special Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance this year. Nora Eisenberg got the chance to chat with Fox about his work and about fracking in America. Check out the interview here, and watch the HBO premiere of Gasland on Monday, June 21st.
