Watch the video below.

The Vietnamese-American author Viet Thanh Nguyen’s first novel, The Sympathizer, a spy thriller set against the backdrop of the Vietnam war, won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, among numerous other awards. His recently-released The Committed is the sequel to his celebrated debut and has been receiving widespread notice coast to coast. The Sympathizer established Nguyen as both a literary star and an advocate for displaced people around the world. Nguyen is a professor of English, American studies and ethnicity, and comparative literature at the University of Southern California as well as a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times.

Join one of America’s most highly regarded writers in conversation with Katrina vanden Heuvel talking about his own experience as a refugee in America, how we’ve seen anti-Asian violence through history, and some of the ways he thinks people can help their communities.

Tickets are $10. There will be ample time devoted to audience questions and conversation. All proceeds directly support The Nation’s journalism. We hope you will join us! If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
