Nation Poll

Which recent sex scandal revealed the most about politicians as we know them?

  1. I think our society really benefitted from the Larry Craig scandal because it made homophobia even less socially acceptable than it was before. It reinforced the notion that those who scream loudest about the "sanctity of marriage" often have no respect for their own marriages. Meanwhile, those of us who support marriage equality quietly remain faithful to our spouses (whether our relationships are legally recognized or not).

  2. Bullshit Qs.

Sex reveals nothing unique to pols or even interestingly special about them.

Far better off following the money they & their families get rather than how they spend a mere bit of it.

But money cuts too close to the bone, whereas sex is so much easier.

  3. I think the Bill Clinton scandal was the most revealing. What it showed was that when a man, any man, is having an affair, he feels like he is 17 again, and he acts 17 again. He will sacrifice his career, his marriage, his family, his reputation, his money, and even his health for something that 3 months later he will ask himself, "Was I out of my mind???" And it doesn't matter if he is President of the U.S., a governor, a senator or a cab driver. I believe that the romance, the excitement, the risk, and the sheer stupidity are a form of temporary insanity. There is no other way to explain why these men do this to themselves.

  4. What these types of 'scandal' reveal is the extreme level of hypocrisy that exists in America and the use of this hypocrisy to dehumanize one segment of the population in order to exploit the part of America that succumbs to the lure of thinking that somehow they are fundamentally superior to some one who is different from them. Whether different by race, religion, or any other convenient characteristic. Only when we can stop being lured by these shallow humans who are willing to cause suffering in others who otherwise are just like them for the sole purpose of achieving money or power will we, as a nation, finally overcome the one true danger to our democracy and to our freedom. How could we have elected Bush who obviously manipulated us by dividing us so blatantly? How can we tolerate incarcerating so many of our citizens for the same victimless crimes that our current president practiced in his youth. For him, they were youthful indiscretions. For victims of his hypocrisy in Texas they were ready excuses to divide us.

  5. There's a lot more to this than you think!

See comments at Nichols, Democrats.com want to save Spitzer"

Because Both Republicans and Democrats carried out 9/11 with Mossad's help.

9/11 was an inside job! Much happier picture of Spitzer, with Smirking Larry Silverstein [911blogger.com]

  6. I agree with Be Good and D10DO. Sexuality and source(s) of money are keys to understanding anyone's humanity, or relative lack thereof, because they directly correspond to our drives to procreate (or figuratively, for mostly males, to feel potency) and survive (hmmm...power again).

Your reading helps me to feel powerful/influential friends. Thanks.

  7. What is most intriguing RESE is how all these Republicans, Democrats and Mossad got Al Queda to confess to 9/11!

  8. Growing up in the 70's and 80's I always heard that the only difference between Republicans and Democrats was that Democrats had sex. Now I think the only difference is that Democrats have STRAIGHT sex.
