Polanski is a rapist now and all those years ago, the court system should not look the other way. So what if he made some famous movies, he ran away from his sentencing and that is a criminal act. because he was rich he could afford to live in exile. Ironic that his ego won over and he was on the way for a life time acheivement award, what were they thinking? to condone his behavior is disgusting. He should pay for his crime and serve more time for fleeing his sentence. which if he would have gone to jail way back them he would be out by now. Crimes against women and girls is up in drastic amounts. The men esp white men are feeling threatened by the current equality given to minorities and women, so they lash out against women as we are more easy to attack. The world is changing women and minorites are being given the rights that are so often denied them. Right on, its about time women are empowered. Who cares that the girl now a woman wants to sweep it under the rug, hwo dare her not to stand up and give him whats due. Maybe when he gets anally reemed from his new roommate bubba in jail, justice will be served. d devillers

It's time for Polanski to pay the piper. He lived the high life for too long thumbing his nose at us and the victim.
I won't be sad if he spends the rest of his life in prison.

He committed a crime against a child (13 is still a child as far as judgement is concerned) and should pay the same price as any other child molester - somehow I don't think exile in France quite qualifies.

In many countries there is a statute of limitations (often 10 years) which means that no one can be sentenced for a crime committed more than 10 years before. Polanski's crime is atrocious, the judicial tricks targetting him a stain on US justice. The question now is what purpose would a new trial serve besides hurting the victim who now refuses to relive the past ? So there is a possibility of getting beyond black & white. The focus should be on current victims and the ways of helping them & also of protecting potential victims. A celebrity trial for acts committed in the 70s does not seem such a great idea.
