Nation Poll

What was the worst question from Obama's second prime-time press conference?

  1. I don't remember what publication that race-question woman came from, but apparently she was surprised to be called on, and I immediately undrestood why. What a pointless and vapid question. Did she think that the political aids in the White House were muttering the "n" word under their breaths as they pass Obama in the hall? We as a nation serially undervalue the progress we have made towards racial harmony.

  2. What more do we need to sacrifice? Collapses to our retirement accounts, loss of jobs, foreclosures, not having the money to send our kids to college (without ringing up absolutely unhealthy amounts of debt)...haven't we sacrificed enough for others greed already?

  3. If people are surprised at these stupid questions, they should read the press room transcripts once in awhile. The White House press corps has been getting increasingly irrelevant for more than a decade.

  4. Leave it to Chuckie Todd -- poster boy for every pasty-faced NY Media Yuppie. And what's hysterical, this clown conducted a days-long contest for best question from MSNBC viewers.

    LOL

  5. With these four questions, it is a difficult choice,. But, the "Why haven't you asked...Americans...to sacrifice more?" question is so full of evident ignorance of Mr. Obama's repeated public messages regarding the need for sacrifice by all Americans, it fairly boggles the mind. Did the questioner ever listen to Mr. Obama? Did he or she not understand, or even hear, the President's Inaugural speech? This type of leading question as discourse comes from the trial laywer cross examination tool kit, "When did you last beat your wife?' It is a line of attack, a premeditated insult, and is not intended as an open question. The desired answer is already presented within the question. Any civil response is, at best, instantly a waste of the President's and the public's good will, our invaluable time and our patience. At worse, it repeats and reinforces a base and intentional untruth.

Shame on these people, their employers and their ignoble bias. A fatal bias for which they are rarely held to account. Since Reagan's free ride in the free press, the media has become a wholly owned and overpaid shill for the will to power and the self destructive goals of corporate globalization. It is no wonder most Americans do not trust the so called 'main stream news' or the corporate people who control it. These ever duller media mouthpieces and their followers must create and live in an ever shrinking information bubble. They must ignore facts and invent emotional 'issues' to maintain the misinformation backwater. Questions about the legality of state sponsored torture, clean energy policy, carbon pollution, tax fairness, record unemployment, world recession, war and peace, the rule of law and justice must be kept off the table, out of the room and off the public's radar. It is this projected ignorance, these kinds of disconnected, obstructive and emotionally charged questions, that protects the current American news establishment's anti-social and anti-democratic goals and poisons public discourse for the rest of us.

  7. Throughout the press conference, I watched Helen Thomas at every opportunity. She looked grim, or maybe just tired. Who could blame her, given the inanity of the questions? I would love to know what the Real Journalist in the room would have asked, had she been called upon.

  8. Compare the questions to the ones posed by the citizens in today's Town Hall Meeting. And, MSNBC held a contest for best question? Good grief. These "reporters" are participating in their own obsolescence.

  9. What makes me wonder is why President Obama calls on these prople for questions. After reading the article, I get the impression these journalists ask inappropriate questions and are softball players. Chris
