Nation Poll

What should President Obama emphasize in his speech to Congress on healthcare?

  1. Very simple, the only chance of a bill being passed is if there is a grand and bold compromise between the two sides.

  2. No more deals to water down important legistaion on climate change action, healthcare reform, or economic recovery and shifting to a more sustainable renewable energy base for the country. It's time for President Obama to stand up for the liberal progressive platform that we elected him on.

  3. Its time the President to lead from the front on this.

  4. universal healthcare is a moral right and a matter of justice - I love my medicare and want everyone to have it. Also, medicare should be expanded to include dental and hearing aids and eyeglasses plus unlimited long term care. Private insurance should be eliminated and replaced with medicare for all per HR 676.

  6. Obama lied. Healthcare died.

  7. I'm only in favor of a compromise if the obstructionists refuse to let America change. We need a universal care plan along with the rest. THAT will create the competition that the new capitalists are so adamant about.

  8. he should say that I have to admit as a constitutional scholar that I have been wrong to push Federal involvement in medical services in this country. This is not one of the enumerated powers granted by our Constitution.

Also, we are not Europe where the European Union Charter requires all participating nations to provide Universal Health Care.

Now I encourage the states to address this issue where it should be properly debated in the state legislatures as directed by our 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

Still can't wrap your head around the last 70 years of SCOTUS decisions on the 10th, huh Anti?

It's so sad...he just keeps running around in circles and hitting his head on the wall like that.

  10. The mininformist cabal must be countered, along with a passionate appeal to the decency of REAL Americans.

  11. The best we can hope for is a return to the rhetoric that got him elected. That's all we're asking for anyway, isn't it? We want him to make good on the promises he made. The issues haven't changed -- in fact, they've become worse, but now the values he said he stood for on are on the table, and he seems eager to give them away. So I won't be listening for his new ideas. I'm still waiting for him to deliver on the old ones.

  12. I would like to see a series of public meetings on the high cost of our military and how much money is squandered while American are sick and hurting.

Posted by Dave Simpkins at 09/5/2009

  13. It's beyond me why those who purport to be religious would not see the morale side of this issue. We need to help our fellow men, women and children who can't help themselves. That means that maybe we have to sacrifice ourselves. So be it. One shouldn't have to decide which limb they can save or if they live or die based upon their pocket book. Healthcare is a RIGHT not a privilege. Where is the humanity in those who stand up and yell, everyone for themselves? Those are the individuals who need to lose their jobs and find out what it's like to have to choose between paying for healthcare, eating or having a roof over their head.

It may be true that there is a large percentage of folks who have healthcare coverage, but what kind of coverage? I don't hear anyone talking about that. The more money you have to pay for top of the line coverage is great. If you don't have that kind of money your policy isn't worth much. Yes you can say you have healthcare, but it pays for very little. Would someone please address this? The conservatives make it sound as if those that are covered now have nothing to worry about. Until you've been there, you just don't know.

  14. If this bill ends up looking like Bush's prescription drug bill, is it insensitive to start calling Obama "Black Bush?" Someone ring Dave Chappelle.
