If indeed the administration believes that Fox News has become an arm of a political organization, it must be held accountable the same ways other political action groups are. If the Republican Party and its candidates is in affect receiving unlimited air time from Fox to promote their views, they need to account for the financial value of this airtime.

Here's a little Karl Popper on the topic of the intolerant --e.g. Fox News increasingly fits the mug shot.
Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be most unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive , and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant. We should claim that any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law, and we should consider incitement to intolerance and persecution as criminal, in the same way as we should consider incitement to murder, or to kidnapping, or to the revival of the slave trade, as criminal.
~From "The Open Society and Its Enemies"
As Sheldon Wolin describes in his recent, "Democracy Incorporated", we are currently dealing with a phenomenon he refers to as "inverted totalitarianism" in which a corporate state has taken control of key decision making with very little if any input from the ostensible democratic institutions.
Fox "News" represents, perhaps, the leading loud speaker of this new corporate elite. The beauty of inverted totalitarianism is that no Hitler figure is needed. Not yet anyway.

It would play right into the hands of FOX NEWS CORP for a politician, most especially a president, to criticize it.
They've already designated President Obama their enemy. He should be smart enough not to fall into that role.
It is decent journalists of every political stripe, who still have respect for investigative research, who should subject FOX to grilling and fact-checking. This is a job for journalists, not for politicians.
The success of FOX NEWS really depends upon a generalized corporate media vacuum, in which every corporate channel is becoming more and more concerned about ratings and revenues and less and less concerned about the truth. FOX NEWS differs in its shameless disregard for accuracy only by degrees from CNN and other "respectable" media. Basically, it is the weakness of good media that enables bad media to thrive.
The solution, to my mind, is a renewed commitment to strong public media. Strengthened public media (preferably along the lines of the BBC) are needed just as much as the proposed public option in our health care system, and for the same reasons: to create competition and to keep the corporate media honest.

The brainwashed* audience to which FAUX Noise caters will never hear, or understand, anything Obama says. They will only hear, or understand, the slanted, insane "interpretatations" that are fabricated and shuffled out by the "high priests" of the FAUX echo chamber.
*For want of a better term. Does any devotee of FAUX Noise have a brain?

I don't think that the President should engage FOX News directly. They are not worth Presidential attention. That's what Rahm Emmanuel's job is. The best way to neutralize the right wing nuts is to fact check them. This was how he neutralized them during the campaign. He should remember what the good book says "and the truth shall make ye free". The only weapon against lies is the truth. Cole Conroy

I believe no matter what President Obama says or does, faux noise will always put a negative spin on it - for their brain dead viewers. The primary concern of mine is that the MSM aren't fact checking, but seem to be using the excuse that 'since fox already broke the "news", they would be remiss in not covering whatever non-story that was released.' HOGWASH!! Earn the big bucks, & check the so-called stories before repeating them.
