I personally like the idea of attacking McCain on the supposed success of "the surge".
But, the larger picture that ought to be developed is the link between our foreign adventures --read catastrophes-- and the catastrophes at home that are the result of Greenspan/Reaganomics in the government and on Wall Street and the explosion of personal debt to go with this government and private sector debt.
The crisis has only just begun to explode.
Here's an excellent Mike Whitney piece with references to the well respected Joe Stiglitz and Nouriel Roubini:

Obama's ad reminding us of McCain's Keating Five involvement was long overdue. McCain's involvement is relevant to what is going on today and shows that he really has not changed one bit and that his claims of supporting regulation is a fraud.
He should now go after Sarah Palin by pointing out her current Trooper Gate investigation and how she surrounded herself with appointments of friends and classmates to government positions without any experience. If she wants to bring up Rev. Wright, Obama should counter with her blessing by the wacky Pastor Thomas Muthee who is known for persecuting women in Kenya for witchcraft.

A little known fact to ponder, between 1998 and 2003, ALL 50 states, in an attempt to protect their own citizens, enacted legislation to protect would be borrowers from predatory forces and try to equalize the lender/borrower relationship. However, President George Bush in 2003, by using an obscure rule that is written into the governance of the OCC, curtailed all 50 states from further enacting or enforcing their predatory lending legislation.
Yes, Americans, the 50 states unanimously decided to act and save the consumers from these wolves, and the administration down trod those legislative protections and allowed the full pack of wolves to surround the herd of sheep. The shame began in the greed of the bankers, was stopped by the states, and was subsequently reinstituted by President Bush.

Linking McCain's previous market deregulation votes and endorsements to today's complete meltdown of the American economy is guaranteed to engender enough disapproval to ensure he gets nowhere near the driving seat of the U.S. economy. And rightfully so!
