Banner Rates

Banner advertisements can be purchased on a cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM), or day-measure, basis. The open CPM is $29. Minimum purchase $750.

Banners

The Nation generally adheres to the CASIE/IAB online standard advertising dimensions. There are four creative sizes available: Standard Banner (468 pixels wide x 60 pixels high) , SuperBanner (728 pixels wide x 90 pixels high) and a Large Rectangle (336 pixels wide x 280 pixels high) and Large Skyscraper (160 pixels wide x 600 pixels high).

Flash Creative

A backup GIF must be provided for browsers without the Flash plugin. This GIF should follow the specifications of an image ad of that size.

For the ad to click through properly, an invisible/transparent click layer button must be added on the topmost layer of the flash file.

Interactive creative units

All ads with audio and video must be user initiated, and must have clearly visible stop and start audio controls.

Prior to user initiation, interactive ads must not obscure any editorial content.

No mouse-over, automatic-starts, pop-ups, pop-unders or fly-bys will be accepted.

All banner ads with a white background must have at least a 1px colored border as part of the art.

Banner location

All banner advertising will be placed "run of site" unless an advertiser specifies otherwise. Banners are rotated throughout most of the heavily trafficked pages.

The Nation uses an online ad server to host all advertising banners. Advertisers may elect to target specific pages, day-parts, and geographic regions. Surround sessions are supported. Consult with Leigh Novog for pricing options. Custom creative units may be created upon request, and are subject to an additional cost premium.

Posting and Reporting

Banner creative may be posted within hours with full payment. The advertiser will receive access to banner performance reporting and regular email notification of progress throughout the advertising flight.

Sponsored EmailNation

EmailNation is sent to a list of 92,000+ opt-in subscribers several times each week. EmailNation is a product of the editorial department. There are two sponsorship opportunities. Sponsorships may be sent as HTML (468x60) or text-only email, and advertising creative is clearly distinguished from the editorial content. Only one advertiser is featured in each EmailNation. The sponsorships may be either HTML or text. See examples of each sponsorship below:

Recognized agencies earn a standard 15% discount. Discounts apply only within the contract year and must be negotiated in advance. It is understood that the advertiser and/or agency indemnifies the publisher against any claims or suits based on the contents of an advertisement. The publisher reserves the right to reject or cancel any advertising at any time. Publication of an advertisement constitutes final acceptance. The Nation has a strong presumption against censoring any advertisement.
