Why do journalists neglect to mention in all this hubbub about the oil spill that the oil produced off US shores is not for the US? It is sold to the world market and to the highest bidder. In some cases that might be the United States, but that means that the United States has to buy its own oil back from oil companies like BP. That information is missing from the stories about BP and the oil spill, the effects of which will be disastrous for decades. Remember the old instuction one would see in an antique or glass store: if you break it, you bought it! Well, BP broke it and bought it. Why should US taxpapers spend a cent when BP's profits alone would easily pay for the cleanup and related matters?
