The US Helsinki Commission will hold a hearing on “Freedom of the Media in the OSCE Region,” focusing on trends regarding media freedom in states participating in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Witnesses include: Ms. Fatima Tlisova, a Russian journalist (residing in the United States since March 2007) who was subjected to violent physical attacks and intimidation as a result of her reportage from the conflict-torn North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation; Ms. Nina Ognianova, Europe and Central Asia program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists; Ms. Paula Schriefer, director of advocacy, Freedom House. "A Panel on Prosecutorial Discretion: The US Attorney Scandal and the Duke Lacrosse Players' Case," an event featuring James K. Robinson, Partner, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP and former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan; and Richard Rosen, Professor of Law, University of North Carolina School of Law. Tribes Gallery hosts a group art exhibition, centered around the theme of Charlie "Bird" Parker, featuring the works of of ten local and international emerging artists, who received high honors in the Tribes art contest judged by Robert Storr of MoMA.
