Sacrificing the progressive policies of his Great Society for the war in Vietnam President Lyndon Johnson remarked: "It's easy to get into a war, it's sure as hell hard to get out." Recalling that statement and the long-term damage caused by that decision, former Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern warns President Obama his course in Iraq and Afghanistan could lead to similar consequences. The ambitious healthcare, environmental and educational programs put forth by the administration cannot receive the funding they deserve by sharing resources with the war efforts. McGovern reasons the United States' obligations in the middle east have been met and now is the time to leave.
