Nation Associate Editor Richard Kim sits down with Laura Flanders from GRITtv to discuss the passage of Proposition 8, an initiative that overturned a California Supreme Court ruling allowing same-sex couples to marry. Kim identifies three things that contributed to the success of Prop. 8: the "No on 8" campaign's lack of organization, its failure to cultivate support from communities of color quickly enough, and its limited understanding of the "Yes on 8" campaign's approach to the issue.
