Barbara Ehrenreich's new book, This Land Is Their Land, is a sobering expose of the ways in which economic developments have excluded poor and middle-class Americans from co-habitation with the rich in functional communities. As she discussed in the June 11 issue of The Nation, we have entered the era of the super-rich, a new Gilded Age where, if a place is truly beautiful, ordinary people can no longer afford to be there. Appearing on The Colbert Report Monday night, Ehrenreich riffed on the "New Inequality" with the king of deadpan.
