She is Pamela Newkirk, an associate professor of journalism at New York University and the author of Within the Veil: Black Journalists, White Media, which received the 2001 National Press Club Award for media criticism. A member of the Newsday team that won a 1992 Pulitzer Prize for spot reporting, she's written on the media and African-American art and culture for publications including The Nation, the New York Times, the Washington Post and Artnews. She lectures widely on media diversity and was the editor of A Love No Less: More Than Two Centuries of African American Love Letters.
