Across the world, forests are falling at unsustainable rates, and many of our major wood suppliers and retailers are betting that we don't care.
Luckily, the Forest Stewardship Council has provided us with a way to let the lumber industry know that we do, in fact, care. By purchasing wood that meets the FSC's SmartWood standards for sustainability, we can all have our wood without giving Mother Nature a mohawk.
Unfortunately, SmartWood is not available in all areas. And often, big purchasers such as governments don't even know about SmartWood. So it's always a good idea to spread the word. Tell your local government you want your taxes to purchase SmartWood. Talk to small wood and furniture stores or local shops about SmartWood. And before you stop at one of them call the Big Three wood purchasers:
