Bill & Barack Together Tonight

posted by Ari Berman on 10/29/2008 @ 12:05pm

Tonight is most definitely Barack Obama night in America. The Democratic nominee will air his multimillion dollar TV spot at 8 pm ET. He'll appear on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. And he'll cap the night with a late-night rally in Orlando with none other than the Big Dog, Bill Clinton, in their first ever joint campaign appearance.

What took them so long? Well, Bill's rather tepid support for Obama at points following the primary has become the stuff of legend in this campaign. Just watch SNL's Weekend Update from a few weeks ago, featuring Darrell Hammond (still one of the best imitations ever) as Bill.

But Clinton knows that the best way to advance his wife's political fortunes and preserve his legacy is to appear as a good soldier for the man who defeated her in the primary. His passionate speech at the Democratic Convention was terrific, as was his first campaign appearance for Obama in Florida in early October.

But their appearance tonight will likely be even more electric. Timing is everything in politics and Obama, like Clinton before him, looks increasingly like the right man for his time.

  4. "What happened to those "Millions of PUMA Hillary voters who are in love with Sarah now"?!?!??!??"

They opened their eyes and smelled the roses.

Obama wasn't my first choice, but faced with voting for him or the dead guy with a Barbie doll, he won.

    No you won't.

Even videotape isn't enough to prove to you things you don't want to believe...LOL

  6. I think Bill will highlight the utter destruction in the US economy under Republican leadership since he left office and the prospect of regaining our economic strength with an Obama presidency.

FINISHING STRONG is what Obama intends to do, leaving McCain no opportunity to get back in the race.

This is what Obama should have done to Hillary after Iowa and before New Hampshire, and I certainly believe he has learned from that lesson.

Close out your opponent with a knock out punch when you have them staggering on the ropes.

Florida would be a KO. Of course, if Obama wins Virginia and North Carolina...Florida would be moot.

  9. You're right, Metteyya, he should have closed the deal like this after Iowa. But would Bill have gone for it at that point?

  10. I'm trying to send this message to Bill Clinton. Thanks, if you can, in any way. Ruth

    Dear Bill:

Check out the video CBS NEWS video that shows me talking about you in Fayetteville, WV, during the primary. More than half a million people viewed it. I'm the woman who heckled you while you were speaking. After that day, I and my whole family switched from Obama to Hillary and we stayed with her all the way to the end. We wish she were the nominee as we feel that Obama is going to lose it yet.

I said, "Hey, Bill, it's guns or butter."

You paused and kept on with your speech.

    "Stop the War!"

You paused and kept on with your speech.

I said, "Hillary promised health care and then she went into the White House and didn't come out to fight for health care."

You stopped and started shouting in her defense, saying that Bob Doyle blocked health care.

I said, "You were the President!"

You said, "I'll talk to you later."

Afterwards I and my husband went forward to shake your hand and gave you one of our leaflets urging you to check out our website, www.matrix-evolutions.com .

I hope you will after the election and McCain wins because I feel that you and Hillary might fight this abomination even though Obama won't. Please, we need you.

  15. "It's all about the money, boys!" By offering most Americans a bigger tax cut than John McCain, Barack Obama has essentially bribed more people to vote for him, than the other guy. Not much different than it was in the 19th Century; although, then you could get by with bottle of cheap whiskey. Who says American voters haven't become more sophisticated? Go Ralph! You can do it! You're only behind by 50 points or so, and there's still 5 days left.
