"Operation Chaos," Rush Limbaugh's campaign urging Republicans to vote for Hillary Clinton in Democratic primaries, has been very effective. It doubled Republican turnout in Ohio and Texas, boosting Clinton and prolonging the Democratic race. But in Ohio, it was also almost certainly illegal.
Ohio law requires that citizens genuinely support a political party in order to vote in its primary. To change parties for a primary, a citizen must pledge, under the penalty of election falsification, that she is affiliated with the party and "supports" its principles. Lying on the pledge is a felony, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. The law also stipulates that poll workers have a "duty" to challenge voters who are "not a member of the political party whose ballot the person desires to vote."
In Cuyahoga, Ohio's largest county, 16,000 Republicans switched parties for the primary last month. Several did so in bad faith, without truly changing parties, according to newspaper interviews and Internet postings. The Cuyahoga Board of Elections recently voted to investigate the matter; a report is expected on March 31. Despite the massive crossover voting, however, prosecutions are considered unlikely. A spokesperson for Ohio's Attorney General told Alternet that it is "very hard to prosecute" crossover voting cases, since the crime depends on proving a voter's motive on Election Day.
Limbaugh's motives, however, have been perfectly clear from the start. "I'm asking people to cross over, and if they can stomach it and I know it's a difficult thing to do, vote for Clinton," Limbaugh said before the Ohio primary. The goal, he explained, was to ensure Barack Obama was "bloodied up politically" and to extend the Democratic primary "soap opera."
Since the Ohio investigation began, Limbaugh has revved up his special brand of self-promotional damage control. He ran several segments defending "Operation Chaos" with the disingenuous argument that politicians also ask for crossover voters. Of course, intent makes all the difference: Reagan Democrats actually supported Reagan. Limbaugh's campaign is under legal scrutiny because he asked people to crossover in bad faith -- to tamper with elections.
But for $19.95, Limbaugh is still hawking shirts and caps emblazoned with "Operation Chaos," so listeners can join the program's "street team." Wear one of those shirts to the polls, though, and you just might provide enough evidence of the motive needed for prosecution. The shirts list "mission objectives" like "enjoy liberals tearing each other apart," "prolong" the Democratic primary, "drain the DNC of campaign cash," and "win in November."
Finally, Limbaugh is lashing out at anyone who notes that he urged thousands of listeners, whether maliciously or ignorantly, to break Ohio law. He recently complained that NBC's Norah O'Donnell and the New Republic's Michael Crowley dared to discuss the issue. Then he was outraged that Fox's Julie Banderas said election law violations must be "taken seriously" and "Republican shock jocks" were possibly "anti-American" for urging people to break the law. And Limbaugh didn't like my recent criticism, either. When asked about crossover voting during an appearance on C-SPAN last week, I said that people should vote on principle -- not to undermine primary races. I also explained that "Operation Chaos" effectively urged people to break Ohio law, if they voted in bad faith, citing a Wired article. Apparently this observation upset Limbaugh, who recently played the clip while calling out "Stuff it, pal, stuff it!" Now it doesn't take much courage to talk back to a recording, and Limbaugh loves playing up partisan fights for his audience. But this is not only about politics. Limbaugh abused his listeners' trust and encouraged potentially illegal conduct. And after a Republican Justice Department spent years hyping voter fraud charges, now some of the most blatant election law violations are being stoked, repeatedly and unrepentantly, by one of the most prominent figures in Republican politics.

i dont know how they could prosecute, but sincerely hope they do - at least a few.
by the way, rash lungblow may claim the purpose of this felonius campaign to be prolonging the dem struggle, but that, like most of what that blobulant lying drug addict says, is half lie. the other purpose is to nominate the weaker of the two democrat candidates, senator clinton!
WAKE UP DIMOCRATS! YOUR ENEMIES ARE EVIL AND CLEVER AS ALWAYS AND DO NOT HAVE YOUR INTEREST AT HEART.
HOW MUCH FURTHER PROOF DO LAMEBRAINED CLINTONISTA DIMOCRATS NEED THAT THE GOP DESPERATELY WANTS TO FACE CLINTON IN THE GENERAL ELECTION???

My thoughts on this situation is, why not allow it? Why lock the voter into one party? I know we're allowed to cross over in Georgia. So, why lament about not having a democracy, when you won't allow the people to vote as they see fit? Get rid of the restrictions and perhaps you'll have a better turn out.
Posted by ACook at 03/25/2008 @ 12:23pm
Come on, Mr Melber....you're smarter than this.
There's no way to actually PROVE that those Repubs WON'T vote for Obama come the fall (though they probably won't)....ergo, no way to prove a violation of that law and no way to indict Limbaugh as a co-conspirator.
Sure it pisses folks off that he's gaming the Dem nomination process....but just have to live with it, I'm afraid.
BTW, hear many CLINTON folks complaining?...heheh

Oh, by the way--I forgot to mention this in my oringinal post-- While in my CHURCH parking lot,on Palm Sunday, I had a leaflet placed under my wiper blade asking the generic me to re register if a Republican and vote for Hillary. Others, at a different area in the same town, had a similar request from the Obama camp! So, If your going to indite Limbaugh in Ohio, 40 miles to my West, the democrates was encouraging exactly what you are bitching and whinning about!
Rings a bit hollow, don't you think?
Posted by Drdoppler at 03/25/2008 @ 12:39pm
Excellent summary, Ari ... Gregory Korte's "'Cross-over' voting has baggage" from the Cincinnati Enquirer quotes somebody from another county prosecutor's office as saying "I don't know whether anyone's ever been prosecuted for it, but if the Board of Elections referred something to us, we'd have to take a look at it." We shall see ...
Any word on whether people are looking into this in places other than Cuyahoga County? The first news I saw was Scott Isaacs' report from Butler County [which had links to several people admitting lying on the pledge on an internet discussion board].
And Frankshitz, different states have different rules about crossover voting, so if this actually does get prosecuted it's highly unlikely to get laughed out of court. But don't take our word for it; how about Cuyahoga County Republican Chairman Rob Frost, who before the election contacted Republican voters and appeared on the Frantz show urging Republicans "not to heed the siren call of Rush Limbaugh and others."
An idle thought: the penalty for election falsification is up to $2,500. Depending on how many people did this illegally across the state, that could add up to enough to offset the $21,000,000 Diebold owes the state (and hasn't yet paid) for the malfunctioning voting machines that got decertified. It's highly unlikely they'd fine individual voters that much; but if there's somebody with deep pockets behind it ... hmmm ...

We also need a PUBLIC statement by Hillary Clinton condemning the Operation Chaos actions, which obviously benefit her candidacy.

If the primary is open according to law anyone can vote regardless of political affiliation, hence, "Open Primary". That means the same rules apply whether you are Democrat, Republican or Independent. What is against the law is asking who you voted for or whether or not you a registered to any party if it is open. After all we Democrats crossed over to vote for McCain to get the candidate we wanted Obama or Clinton to run against. So we can't cry know when the same tactic is applied to our primary now can we. If we do we look like a bunch of cry baby idiots. Go Obama!

Okay, somebody answer this for me-
when registered Democrats crossed over and registered as Republicans to vote for McCain, they were being "patriotic". Why is this any different? Saying that you have to vote strictly for the party you have registered potentially eliminates ANY crossover voting, and would completely remove Independents from the voting process. There's no way you can make a logical case for it, and to even suggest that somebody be arrested and charged with "voter fraud" in light of crossing over like this is foolish and naive.
btw, that loyalty oath that the Ohio Democrat party has registrants sign when they register is unConstitutional...look it up if you don't believe me. If there are any charges of "voter fraud", expect that to be used to strike them down.

This is nonsense. When you arrive to vote, you are asked for your ID and your name and address are verified. Then you are asked which ballot you prefer, and the ballot is handed to you, no questions asked. Nobody has to sign anything and the poll worker has no idea how you have voted in the past. Nothing in the information the poll worker has in front of them indicates the voter's party preferences. that is the truth. There is no way anybody can ever be prosecuted for "vote fraud". The real problem is with the law in states such as OH, which can and probably should be changed. In the meantime, it certainly is worth remembering that Dems such as the Kook and his lemmings have promoted the same kind of tactics. In fact, many Dems seem to love this kind of insurgent grassroots attack-the-Establishment stick-it-to-the-Man kind of "activism." It's amazing to hear so many Dems belatedly (and selectively) converting to the side of "law and order."

Wow, lots of Rushbots here today. Welcome aboard, dittoheads.
Personally, I have no problem with crossover voters in states that are open primaries. Alls fair and all that jazz. However, in states that are closed primaries, it's just plain wrong, for either side to cross over and vote with malicious intent. If there are laws on the books that cover this then they need to be upheld. If there aren't any laws, PLEASE don't go and make more! Karma will take care of it.
Signed, Silly Hippy

Funny, I never heard these kinds of outrageous statements while democrats were voting in New Hampshire and other early primaries, propelling McCain back into the race. After all, if it wasn't for democrats voting on the republican primaries McCain wouldn't likely be the nominee. But now by telling people to vote, Limbauagh is the bad guy. You leftists are so hypocritical and transparent is laughable. Grow up. now you're going to threaten voters with jail??? And who is it that's supressing voting rights?? Who is requring some loyalty oath to vote??? Who is intimidating voters?? As usual, the liberal socialsts.

I wonder if someone that has been around for awhile can fill me in. I'm going to guess that probably half of the posts here now are some form of "conservative". I'd say the bulk engage in some form of trolling and then there are a few that I think are willing to engage in more of less reasonable dialogue, even the John Maashs, Happy, even LVL.
Do you think there is an election effect that brings more trolls here? I'm sure that there is an article effect as can be seen here with Rush and previously with Ron Paul supporters (while rapid were nothing like those that listen to Rush).
I ask because I'm thinking about spending less time in this forum. I think the signal to noise ratio has gotten to unacceptable levels and wonder if perhaps it might get better once the election is over. Also, I'm aware that there is an ignore feature, but I've now gotten around the 30s in the number of people that are on it - and the trolls keep on trolling.
It would be nice if they had comment moderation and perhaps some penalties for users with a habit for engaging in flaming and trolling. At some point, The Nation will have to implement some kind of feature like that or find their forums have become as useful as Usenet.
Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is a difference here and I am sure a keen troll mind like yours is unable to see it. Limbaugh is involved in a conspiracy to commit voter fraud. There you go. Ohio might not be able to prove every individual count of voter fraud, but for every bad faith vote, there is a possibility that Rush was supporting and encouraging this illegal act.

Boy the angry Republicans! After 8 years the President did not stand up and fight against the Democrats, we spent money, increased government, voted for the war, and blamed it on him, now they want to fight. We lobbied Greenspan to lower the interest rates causing the run on housing. We even blamed the Housing crisis on the President after we lobbied the Mortgage companies to relax its lending rules, give zero down loans and Adjustable Rate Mortgages to poeple who could not afford but where to stupid to see it. We called it "getting a piece of the American Dream". It was a great plan after all the surge was working in Iraq and not enough people were dying so we needed the economy to go into the tank, are our worked paid off, we blamed it on the President. The thing you Republicans don't get is we feed off misery, without it we are lost. Do you remember the financial problems created by Gray Davis in California, do you remember the strategy that was broadcast accidentaly through the state house, our strategy was to keep the financial misery going in order to get votes. But we where found out and we lost to Schwarzenegger. Do you remember our voting manual from Colorado during the Kerry/Bush campaign, we were instructed to yell voter fraud even if there was none to cast doubt on the election. Now we put up the number one most liberal Senator for President, a man who has no experience and a woman in Hillary that people hate, yet in the end we will win because we vote on emotion not on facts. Fighting it now is a little to late. The march of Socialism is now on and you conservatives will not support McCain even though he has a 80% conservative rating to 0% for Obama and 5% for Hillary. We will take your money and property because we know how to better spend it, we will give it to someone else in more need. And all this was accomplished because you did not fight.

It IS working! The point isn't to get Hillary elected, but to prolong the dem primary cycle and let them eat themselves alive. Which is exactly what Obama & Clinton are doing to each other and the party. The longer it goes on, the less time the dem nominee will have to actually campaign against McCain.
On this side of the fence, it is obvious that Hillary doesn't have a chance to pull out the nomination. It's just fun to sit and watch the dems rip each other apart!

It seems to me that it isn't any of any person's or political party's business who an individual votes for. There aren't regulations stating that someone must vote a particular way. There can't even be loyalty requirements -- just because someone is registered to a particular party does not mean they are required to vote for that party. This is pathetic.

Or maybe find out who doesn't agree with liberals and make them wear some kind of symbol on their chest? We'd better find a way to get inside the minds of people, find out what they're thinking and why they're thinking it, and if it's any good for "right thinking" people! You know we're doing something right if it pisses this many people off. At first I was apprehensive about boosting Clinton in any way shape or form. But this is too much fun!
I love the attacks on us Rush listeners. Typical elitist comments without any merit or knowledge of the facts. The author of this ridiculous article also tends towards the factually challenged. If he'd cared to check further, he would have seen that Ohio law does not require voters to have or declare a party affiliation either during registration or voting;
Do I declare my political party affiliation when I register?
No. Under Ohio law, your political party affiliation is determined by the ballot you cast in a partisan primary election. [fairfieldelections.com]
If you read the link to the Ohio law referenced in this article you realize it is up to the local judge of elections to decide the voters party affiliation based on past votes and to challenge those who they believe are insincere concerning their reasons for voting for a particular candidate or for requesting a particular ballot. The voter is only required to sign a pledge to a particular party if the judge of elections doesn't believe the voter after the challenge.
The investigation, and even the law itself is at least silly, and could not stand constitutional scrutiny.
This author is either incompetent or deceptive, either way his credibility suffers. I am continually amazed at the inability of most of the media to spend the mere minutes it takes to research and report actual facts instead of this unadulterated bull!

I find it very odd that in 2000 the Dems were crying about how the electoral college needs to be done away with and then in 2004 the Dems were crying because the electoral college was the only thing that was going to save John Kerry! Can't you people see what a bunch of whiney, sniveling little children you are? Go ahead...prosecute away. Eventually, normal, thinking Americans are going to get so fed up with these childish antics that everyone will just sit home and play with their X-Box.

this entire thread is pretty much a new low for the nation's level of discourse. I appreciate that they don't censor voices from the right interested in legitimate debate, but this thread is pathetic. I always knew that limbaugh listeners were a fairly dim bunch, but this moron-a-thon is beyond laughable. I can almost see the flecks of froth and spittle erupting from their rabid mouths as they type their insipid gibberish with one hand, stroking a weapon with the other, "minds" ensconsed in perverse fantasies about gunning down "traitorous demonrat marxist pedophile nazi libz." "never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience"
Posted by entropy at 03/25/2008 @ 5:18pm
Any voter can vote for whomever they want for any reason. In a closed primary only registered party members can vote in their party's primary. In Ohio you designate your party by asking for the ballot you want. The "pledge" is unconstitutional and is offered by Democrats only! So all of this talk about felonies is laugh out loud embarrasing for Democrats. LOL

Correct me if I am wrong but haven't Obama and Hillary been courting GOP voters to cross over and vote for them? Shouldn't they also be indicted for inciting such a thing? Also, when did voting for whomever you wanted to know, regardless of reason, become a crime in this country? Oath to the Democratic Party is being talked about. Oath to a party is really scary. All this talk of restricting how one votes sure does smack of good old Soviet-style Stalinism.

Hold the outrage, folks. I distinctly remember some years ago (2000? 1992?) a national news broadcast which contained a clip of a black minister, preaching to his flock, and shocking them during a primary, by asking them "To become Republicans..." and then, after a pause he smiled, and said: "For one day!" There was a brief flap about this being done in a tax-exempt church, but of course nothing ever came of that. The double-standards of Democrats are awesome to behold.

Ok,I just sent in my cross over registration to be able to vote in the democrat primary here in North Carolina in May. So did my fiancee, her 2 sons and their girlfriends. We know hundreds of Republicans doing the same. We are staunch Republicans, helping with precinct walks, handing out conservative judge lists, putting out yard signs. It is with glee this election season, to cross over just for the primary, and for the sole purpose of prolonging the democrat madness going on in America today. I will be voting for Hillary because she could use a few more primary votes and to keep her in it a little longer. She will think she's entitled to the nomination. After voting we will immediately send another change request and go back to Republican where we belong. Anything for the CHAOS! Thanks, democrats, for having us!

Dr. Doppler:
I know the conservative "brain" is slow so I'll try to be simple as I explain the difference between what the dittoheads are doing versus what the Democrats for McCain are doing.
The dittoheads, by voting for someone they despise to help another candidate they despise, are tampering with the integrity of the democratic process. Since I'm guessing that you know nothing about history, let me remind you that a certain scandal called Watergate was about Richard Nixon also tampering with the integrity of our democracy. His dittoheads behaved corruptly to help George McGovern and destroy the candidacies of Edmund Muskie and Hubert Humphrey. The latter two were ahead of Nixon in polls.
Non-Republicans who voted for McCain did so because they thought he would be the BEST president among those who were running. I know because I voted for McCain. He has a record of accomplishment that dwarfs those of Clinton and Obama and also has a record of working successfully with Democrats. His positions on the issues are more conservative than mine, but I think he would be a very good president.
The non-conservative brain can make these distinctions. The conservative "brains" can only rant and rave about ideological correctness and can't distinguish between being patriotic and having contempt for democracy.
Non-Republicans who voted for McCain are patriotic. Limbaugh and his ilk prove over and over again that their ranting about patriotism is a bunch of BS and they care more about the success of conservative dittoheads than the state of the USA. That's yet another reason that they find every way possible ("oh, my back hurts") to avoid military service and oppose military action when the president is a Democrat while calling war opponents traitors when the president is a Republican.
I apologize Dr. Doppler for not ocmplying with my earlier promise to not go over your "brain." It's just too difficult.

I woke up to realize the hate and fear mongering of that party. It has changed and gone way left of reality. Blacks are pawns, who keeps the hate going there, Jesse and Al. Women's lib what has that done for women? All it did was make it easier for sleazy guys to have sex! Turned a generation in to whores that can kill there babies, It is a sad state, this so called liberal thought has brought. Peace, pot, micro-dot was the cry of the sixties. Now all of my hippy buddies are divorced and angry. They lived the lie and it is getting worse. We have these safety Nazis, eco nazis, fem nazis, gay nazis. God help you if you tell the truth. Posted by cjram at 03/25/2008 @ 9:51pm
This is actually a ploy that Democrats started years ago. It should be noted that Campaign people are calling many of these folks and asking them to vote for their candidate-so they are doing so.
What about the Democrat voters being taken by bus into Vermont to vote. What about Democrats handing out money in black areas to buy votes? How is it that dead voters in Chicago can vote for Democrats?
You people want separation of Church and State but have no problems in black preachers getting involved in politics, in their Church. Where are Jesse, Al and the boys on all of Wright's racial hatemongering? Where are the Dems?
And when Hillary leverages the superdelegates to steal the nomination from Obama will you say that "She was SELECTED, not ELECTED"? Only one will get the nomination, so you Dems will either have to admit to being sexist or racist. Which will it be?
Fortunately the American people, the decent ones, will not be duped into voting for Socialist pigs. Long Live Democracy!!!

If Dems really cared about integrity of the political process they would DEMAND the termination of SuperDelegates. SuperDelegates are in place for only one reason - as a means to overpower the votes of citizens. As long as they tolerate and promote this they have no legitimate complaints on "the process".
Posted by DieSocialists at 03/25/2008 @ 9:57pm
Benchrest, sorry, I made an assumption. to ZWRITE You are a sanctimonious stooge. A person who is eligible to vote can choose anyone on the ballot for whatever reason, no questions asked. The "process" allows for this. To suggest otherwise is to deny true democracy. It is the purpose of each ideology to defeat the opposition in the arena of ideas and to promote their own candidates and ideas. To make a suggestion that operation chaos is somehow unsportsman like is an attempt at censorship. The fact is that the results of operation chaos is reveiling to all who observe the ensuing chaos. I proclaim this exercise to be ingenious and an example of true blue Americanism.

Some of you people need to get back on the subject of BUSH BIMBAUGH and is propaganda machine, we all knows these re-pukes will do anything possible and then some to keep the White House. If by chance oldman McLame beats Obama we will have 4 more years of the same, putting the tax burden on the blue collar guy even if he is a re-puke, of course there will still be war in Iraq and more and more lies. The re-pukes are all about spreading neocon democracy(dogma) on those who don`t need it but the neocons insist on this and that is why we are over there making a"messopatamia". The neocons are so blind that they are even begining to beleive the "NOBLE LIE" themselves, look at Johnny McLame he does not know which side of his mouth to talk out of yet!

Hi I'm wife of Daddude, What a bunch of nonsense on this site. First, unless democrats have already gained control of this country, it is still a free country. If you want to vote for HillBilly and it ends up biting you in the butte, well there is your lesson. As for me I think that it is a sorry bunch that is running for President of the United States. I would dearly love to see not one vote cast for any of these candidates. Let's start over. Hillary is a stauch communist, fascist, Stalinist, Obama is a socialist, and so is McCain. If any one asked Obama what details of the kind of change he has in mind you would realize that freedom isn't part of the program. And McCain is good with capitalism unless you are successful then just like HillBilly he wants your profits. Living the real american dream with these folks. All you folks on this thread are fighting over semantics do any of you understand what the policies are that they want to institute? I think not.
Posted by Daddude at 03/25/2008 @ 10:11pm
Dear wife of Daddude, perhaps you are correct however, there will be a big difference in the Supreme Court nominees between Obama/Mrs. Clinton and McCain so please don't sit out.

"so what?"?!?!?!?! You're admitting that McCain and the Repubs can't win on the issues, just by weakening Obama???
Pretty amazing "so what?"...since it indicates a full-blown acceptance of the fact that there's nothing right now on the minds of the electorate...that is a "winner" (big winner especially) for Republicans!
Posted by Mask at 03/25/2008 @ 10:16pm
Back to the storyThe clear intent in this Nation story is to intimidate you from using your right to vote. They want to make you think that you could get arrested for it, and they want to make you think that you could go to jail for it. Now, who are these people, these commies at The Nation? These are the same people who every election cycle claim Republicans are engaged in voter suppression and voter intimidation, and yet it is the left and the Democrats and the commies at The Nation, who are now engaging in voter suppression and voter intimidation. It is people at The Nation and others who are trying to intimidate and threaten you by intimidating you and, in the end, disenfranchise you.

This is such old news. Daddy Joe Kennedy manipulated the process by backing a candidate with the same name as JFK's chief rival in an early congressional race to split the vote. That was considered smart politics. By whining about his antics, Limbaugh is getting exactly what he wants.

Posted by ams@50 at 03/25/2008 @ 10:44pm
Missing the point. The whole reason Operation Chaos was instituted was because when the primaries are over and you Dems are told who the super delegates are putting up as the nominee, John McCain will never bring any of the issues up that matter. Like Obama is a major bigot and Hillary is getting mega dollars from the Chinese govt. etc. Even if McCain does slip and step on their toes the only thing the press will cover is the apology, but probably not what the insult was about. No real substance is allowed to come out, in the press, if a Republican can benefit, then it is considered an ugly attack. But as of right now the media is having a Linda Blair moment, what a tragedy. How can the media protect either one of the Democrats when they are attacking each other. And what about Poor John when it's all said and done and the nominee is picked, due to the McCain Finegold bill he will have to face the Democrat advertising machine, I mean the press, all by his lonesome. Poetic justice.

You also said "so what?"....which is it?
DO you think McCain can beat Obama on the issues? He's calling for endless occupation of Iraq with 80%+ of the public wanting us out in less than 2 years.
He's admitted he knows little about the economy...and it's the #1 issue. He's offering virtually NOTHING but an exact "re-do" of the last 4 years of Bush (at a 30% approval rating).
So....except for weakening Obama politically...you think McCain can win it on actual policies that the electorate would support?
Posted by Mask at 03/25/2008 @ 10:46pm

I spend alot of time on the Internet and read news papers form around the world and they have a better perspective than Rush and Fox news combined. These papers are where you go to get the truth about Iraq,WMD`s and Iran.I don`t trust any U.S. papers any more.I get alot from guys like Tom Hartmann and Peter Werbe and Laura Flanders.I trust the Nation and a few other magazines too.

I understand the difference between "intelligence" and "fact". I also know that Saddam killed 5000+ Kurds with chemical weapons proving that he had them. What he didn't prove was that he had destroyed them in any way. As far as abortion I do believe it is completely unnecessary and an act of irresponsibility. Anti-gay is simply a matter of evolution and what works for a society and demographics. Investigate what happens to societies demograpically when both of the previous things become acceptable. I am ok with anybody choosing the gay lifestyle I am opposed however to making it no different than heterosexuality.

As to abortion I beleive in talking to my kids about "SEX" and not shutting it up and locking it down in the closet. As with homosexuality it`s been around since "the Dawn of Mankind" and it will never just go away.

Ams, I see your point. Is it really being anti gay to try to protect marriage? Which is the fabric of society? Or is it lets just kill kids because we don't want marriage or there a hassle! I use to think like that as well. You think the gov't hasn't been listening to phone calls and Bush just started it! You should be glad he told you there doing it! The NSA has been doing this since the 70's. You think Billy boy told you the truth. He was so screwed up that he let Osama get away. Maybe if he was doing his job we wouldn't have had to go to Iraq. And lose 4000 of our finest! The gay agenda is a lie it is anything but gay, ask me how I know my youngest brother died of aids, he was a great guy that fell into a horrible lie!!! So I'm for anybody that is against pushing that lie, I think it was Goering who said tell a lie long enough and people will believe it. Rush's plan is well thought out and quite amusing. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Hillary and Obama are both unelectable. McCain is a poor choice but he should be liberal enough for you guys, he is probably more liberal than Billy. I hope he is not to weak to fight the dem hate and slander machine of personal destruction!
Posted by Daddude at 03/25/2008 @ 11:12pm
Chemical weapons are WMD and I think there has been a lot of misunderstanding about that. Chemical, biological, and nuclear, its just a fact. True, homosexuality has been around since the dawn of time, but making it socially acceptable has not worked out well for the societies that did so. So has pedophelia, murder, and many other things that are detrimental to the long-term success of societies. Not a judgement on individuals, just a demographic reality. The supposed necessity of abortion implies that we are animals incapable of controlling our libido. I prefer to believe that we are creatures of thought rather than instinct, with the ability to analyze risk and reward. As well as control our more basic tendencies. We are required by law to control our wishes to do many things.

The vast majority of Rush-haters form their opinion on what others tell them he said, or who hear a sound bite without the context of a 3 hour show that is on the air 5 days a week. My impression of Rush was changed 180 degrees after hearing him directly as opposed to hearing what my college professors told me he said. It is something you have to hear for yourself, not what others tell you about it.

CJRAM "Freedom from religion... amen" AMS You're focusing on the seriousness of the charge and not the nature of the evidence. I've listened to Rush AND Randy Rhodes... it is through exposure to many different perspectives that I can be confident in my beliefs now. After all, I've never met Rush, or Bush, or you for that matter. Try and have an original thought.MASK I reject your original premise that Operation Chaos' purpose is to weaken Obama. however, McCain (as with all of the current candidates) has his weaknesses and they will all come out in time. My 'so what" is to the point that it actually matters in the context of this story.

I have listened to Rush. He's the only option for talk radio in countless American cities. Rush is a master. Master conman. Pure poison. Cheney mouthpiece especially pre-war. Owned by a super wealthy, non-public, private equity group. Not a product of capitalism or ratings. Given dominant positioning on military radio as well. Dittoheads do not ask questions.

Posted by graphicdav at 03/25/2008 @ 11:38pm
"Given dominant positioning on military radio as well." This is exactly opposite from reality. Only the first hour of Rush's show can be heard on Armed Forces Radio and many Dems in Congress are crying foul on that!
Posted by graphicdav at 03/25/2008 @ 11:39pm
I would like to know if Rush is not a product capitalism, than what greedy mega-corporation is turning down the otherwise super-profitable mouthpiece of the left?

Here's [skepticwiki.org] a quote
One characteristic about the Noble Lie is that it always assumes that the target audience consists entirely of complete idiots. This weakens its effectiveness, because a substantial number of people are capable of thought. Upon detecting a lie, they are likely to dismiss out of hand the truth of any other statement from the same source. They might even have an emotional reaction to being treated as idiots. This can cause problems for Noble Liars.

Another way the left tries to dismiss Rush is to declare him an entertainer. Which is true! he is very entertaining, funny, super witty. For those of you that have listened to Rush you know that his commentary tends to focus on the soap opera that is politics and the media. He doesn't pound a beat as a journalist, his show prep is to sift through the current news and comment relying on his superior memory and perspective as a life long conservative. He has the ability to find significant elements in current affairs that others might not catch who aren't as savvy. This is what makes him a real pain in the ass to liberals who would rather you forget what they said last year.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/25/2008 @ 11:52pm

What I find laughable--besides the hypocrisy of the Democrat party who publicly pushed crossover voting in both 2008 and 2004--is that, for all your hysterics, your primary voting won't really even matter. That is because the power elite in the Democrat party--by virtue of loading the deck with superdelegates--don't trust the popular vote anyway. It is nearly designed not to allow regular voters to select its candidate. The party elite is clearly afraid to see another George McGovern, so it has stacked your deck. That ought to make the ordinary Dem more angry than a few thousand crossover voters (mostly after Obama created a nearly insurmountable lead).
Posted by freethinking at 03/25/2008 @ 11:59pm
GRAPHICDAV , I never said it was in the CONSTITUTION. Jefferson,Madison,Washington did not want religion or god mentioned or written in the Constitution because it would devalue Christianity and they new Religion would stand on it`s own.Thomas Paine wanted and wrote about the separation of church and state as did Adams and Monroe.

Another way mindless lefties attempt to censor free speech is to accuse those who offer an opposing view as preachers of hate. The more powerful the voice the greater the hate. Therefore Rush is the hateful one that must be silenced. As I said before... AMS, try to have an original thought. If you want to accuse Rush of hate speech then let's hear the specifics...

In truth, nothing will change! A Chinese friend visiting after learning about all the life long welfare commented America is more Communist that Communist China ever was.
Borack Hussein Obama hates Americans who are not black just as Black Muslims hate whites period. Hillary is a hypocrite and a slimy politician, but so is Obama. He let a crook help him buy his house. McCain is a conservative Democrat with liberal leanings. Any of the above will still yield more taxes, more socialism, more economic decline, more laws, more controls of individual freedoms, more monitoring (liberal England watches everyone), policians and lawyers will get richer, busineses will decline, gov't make work will increase, and the stupid will believe will save them, as always. Rome provided bread and gladiator games, Amerca provides welfare and TV
Democrats voted in Republican primaries as did Independents (who happen to vote almost always for Democrat candidates). Now, Republicans are doing the same to Democrats and all hell breaks out. Tough Luck. A Republican voter can have a change of heart and be consumed with Democrate compassion. The oath does not say forever. Just because the Republican realizes he/she was went temporarily insane does not an illegal act make.
Don't want Dem primaries messed up? Stay out of Republican primaries. What goes around, comes around! Don't worry, be happy it is all a crock.
Oh, yeah! Don't forget, the Supreame Court has no Constitutional Authority to make do most of what it does!

It is curious to me that Democrats are giving Rush so much power. Do you actually think your primary would be over without operation chaos?
NOT!
In California, the Democrats allowed independants to vote a Dem ballot, so I voted Obama. The Republicans did not allow it. I suppose you think that is illegal.
Obama is unelectable, though I did not think so until I heard the diatribe he subscribed to in church for the last 23 years. So is Clinton for that matter. Look out for the Bosnia snipers!
What you guys on the left are seeing is your own tactics at work within two factions of your own side. You don't like it do you?
Those of us who are right of center are used to it, so suck it up and taste your own foul medicine.
Rush is making a satire of your self created situation, and you want to prosecute him? You should watch Bill Mahr once in a while.

WINYAHN is a perfect example of the left that is scared of opposing views. He would rather demean them and/or misquote to discredit Rush. How about trying to understand the concepts and then arguing your point of view. btw, Calling Obama Osama, that was Ted Kennedy. Referring to Chelsea as a dog was not a comment that Rush made but poor editing on his tv show. Which he could have blamed on a staffer but did apologize.

Repetitious, ex 27 times in one show... Limbaugh called Obama "Magic Negro" throughout the broadcast -- 27 times, to be exact -- and at one point sang "Barack, the Magic Negro" to the tune of "Puff, the Magic Dragon."
"...you know, yesterday on this program, ladies and gentlemen, we did our little test. We played "Barack, the Magic Negro" to see if the drive-bys would pick up on it"
Magic Negro: "I'm going to keep referring to him as that because I want to make a bet that by the end of this week I will own that term if I refer to Obama the rest of the day as the 'Magic Negro,'
"Obama, you're taking the high road here and I admire you -- but they're trying to destroy you, my man! Out there with your drug use and your drug-selling and not doing the spadework -- they're trying to destroy you, Obama!"

Clear Channel-Cheney - NOT the critical 4th estate as designed by the founding fathers. NOT constitutional. Dittoheads can't stand this patriotic, true blue American reality:
Example question of "journalist" Limbaugh "interviewing" Cheney:
"You and the President both have decried the theatrics of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and a number of the Democrats, and ... I, frankly, need to ask you if you really think it's theatrics, or is this who they really are? Is this what they really intend, to lose this war, to make sure we come home defeated?"

It's just fantastic!
I love it. Every little bit of it. Seeing Hillary being able to continue along, seeing Obama having to continue to worry about her, and watching the both of them fighting like two fat kids over the last piece of cake just puts a bright, shining smile on my face.
McCain will never, could never, be as harsh towards either one of them as they are towards each other. The good thing is, it looks like he won't have to. It appears like he'll never have to get sucked into the liberal cesspool of politics because all the work will have been done for him. As far as right now, 165,000 people have switched parties in Pennsylvania to the democratic party, ensuring that the battle goes on even longer. Ultimately, it's going to come down to Hillary pulling closer and the superdelegates (the most repugnant process of nullifying individual people's votes that I've ever seen) will decide who goes forward. If it's Obama, there'll be cries of discontent because of states like Michigan whose people were shamefully deprived of their vote. If it's Hillary, there's no doubt that there will be outcries of "racism" and riots in streets.
The democratic party will never be the same after this.
Thank you Rush, from the bottom of my heart. If you ever run, you've got my vote.

Hey WINYAHN, you act as if Rush coined the term Magic negro in reference to Obama. However, if you are repeating the complaints of others then it's time to reboot. Try some original thinking.

And this, people, is one of the many reasons why I am thankful a republican will undoubtably be our next president. Espescially McCain with his military background. So that the Iraquis who cheered and praised us when we eliminated one of the most ruthless dictators since Hitler, who poisoned and gassed over a million people, will be assured of having a country with free elections. A country where the leaders won't "silence" those with different views. A country where a dictator's sons won't kill and torture and make people dissapear. They'll know a country that has democracy. A country that'll be able to defend itself because it's army will be trained by the best damn army on the planet. And when Americans can finally leave Iraq, they will leave knowing that they've accomplished something remarkable: They've put a bastion of freedom in an area rife with oppression and terrorism.
This is something that we can be assured of happening only if Obama and Hillary don't wind up in the whitehouse. So once again, thank you Rush for your help. If he hadn't done this, we might have had a Commander in Chief who would have announced to the enemy (Bin Laden, Syria, all of them) the exact date we were planning to retreat. They would have waited then came in and destroyed what's being attempted in Iraq, because of their inherent hatred of freedom. The noble sacrifices made by not only our men and women in uniform, but by our allies in this fight be it England, Canada, etc., would have been for naught.
It would be akin to having never stepped in and stopped Nazi proliferation. Do you really think that we would have been in THAT war either with either of the democratic candidates running now?
Now, libswarnedu, I have not heard this about republicans being the most hated sub-culture in America. Huh. Are we? Honestly...I don't really care. What are we hated for? For Origionist beliefs in constitutional law? For the belief that the governmental power should be less, not more? For knowing that universal health care has been proven inefficient time and time again with the quality of doctors and length of time to be seen by a doctor worsens dramaticly, and people come from all over the world to see American doctors because of it? Because we as republicans KNOW that the economy does better in a low-tax free market society where people work for what they get as opposed to democrat-sponsored governmental hand-outs? Because even now we're in the supreme court defending one of America's most sacred rights from anti-gun zealots eager to squash freedoms further? And there are probably dozens of other reasons why we're hated, correct? Honestly, you just make me sad.
So let us continue, people. Let people like Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingritch, Sean Hannity, Michael Reagan, and every single person out there who cares about conservatism and the most amazing country to have ever existed continue to do everything we can to stifle the liberal march towards socialism and marxism that they are on today.
Thanks to all right-thinking people. Be strong and do what's right.

I happen to be an Ohio voter, a registered Republican, and on primary day went to vote and found that my party had been switched. I wasn't the only one. I was told I had to sign something to verifiy that I wanted it switched back. I can't tell you how many names were on the list, but I was told that it was long. So I don't really know which party or if any party was behind it, but it seemed to me that something fishy was going on. I had heard of other counties having similar problems earlier in the day so I was on the lookout for it when I went to vote.

And oh, by the way...
For all those advocating prosecution for people who sign a loyalty oath to the Democrating party who aren't "Democrat enough", would you advocate criminal prosecution for someone who signs that oath who votes for McCain in November? Think about what you're advocating -- prosecuting those who claim to be party members who don't toe the party line. Perhaps this is why every significant dictator of the 20th century came from the left.

"Have you ever noticed that all newspaper composite drawings of wanted criminals look like Jesse Jackson?"
I see these repeated often but have yet to find a date or other source besides other websites simply repeating it. I guess you're right WINYAHN, propaganda becomes the truth if you repeat it over and over.
...on the use of the term Magic Negro, the joke is on you. Yes Rush repeated this time and time again to parody you lefties. But I guess you just can't grip the humor or perhaps you're in denial.

BTW That Ohio Loyalty Oath is blatantly unconstitutional, and any legal action against Rush or Chaos voters would die a quick and merciless death in ANY court! Fact is, this a DEMOCRACY! You know, the term you use for your party like Kim Jong-Il uses it for his? DPNK and DNC should merge and become DWLC: Democrats With a Lot in Common. Actually, I WANT you to go ahead and sue! Can't wait to see the headlines from THAT trial, LOL! Go ahead, torpedo an already-sinking ship of fools.
People can vote any way they goddamn please for any reason they goddamn choose. And they are under NO legal compulsion to reveal who they voted for and why. If you don't like that, why don't you adopt colored ballots like Stalin and Saddam did?
Pathetic. KOS tells Dems to cross over in Michigan to "have some fun" with the GOP primaries, but now it's meddling when Republicans return the favor? I don't know which is worse, the double standards you all operate under or the fact that you don't even realize how two-faced you all are! I send out aprox. 5 bulletins a day for circulation relating to Obama's ties with Islam, his Islamic beliefs, his links to Islam radicals and terrorists, his Islamic Family, Cousin, his Church, his beliefs "Black Liberation Theology and Black Power" his upbringing, his own words of hate towards America and white people, his autobiography, radical family, Marxist following, black Islam mentors, friends thoughout his life, State Senate Life, Votes, etc...
My conservative friends would rather elect Hillary than to see Obama in any public office, EVER!!

Give me a break! Democrats crossed over to vote in the early Republican primaries to knock off Mitt Romney. What's the difference?
Posted by opunakea at 03/26/2008 @ 05:28am
I think its pretty obvious the First Amendment guarantees your right to vote for whomever you choose; the very idea that marking the ballot in the "wrong" way, or selecting a ballot with the "wrong" intent, is somehow illegal under our system is ludicrous, irrespective of the unConstitutional pretensions of the Ohio Legislature. If Ohio doesn't want Republicans voting in the Democratic primary, then Ohio should ban that practice. The very idea that poll workers should be "challenging" voters, in order to ensure they have the "correct" views, before issuing them a ballot, is patent nonsense, and sounds like something Robert Mugabe would have concocted.
Posted by Kevin_OKeeffe at 03/26/2008 @ 06:35am
I should have also referenced the 4th Amendment in this regard; if being "secure in your...papers" doesn't cover not having to answer for how you marked your ballot, then we might as well repeal the Bill of Rights now, and get it over with.

"Hillary still has the best chance because while she loses the blacks, she still has the Hispanics and the Reagan dems. Obama has just the blacks and the youth vote."
This is idiocy. First off, its pretty clear that Black voter turn-out will be quite low if Hillary wins the nomination (an admittedly unlikely contingency), and no Democrat can win the Presidency under those conditions. Its ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Additionally, most other Democrats will vote for whomever the Democratic nominee is; I don't care what polls say in March - the Hillary supporters will be behind Obama's candidacy (assuming he is the nominee, which is all but certain) post-Convention. There's no way Hillary could win, even without depressed Black voter turn-out (which she might avoid, if Obama were her running-mate), due to the simple fact that 50-60% of the American people despise her. Go out and ask people in the real world what they think of Hillary Clinton. Most will make gagging sounds, or call her a dyke, or say she's a power-hungry crook (the latter being correct). Obama is the only chance the Democrats have. I suspect when push comes to shove, the American people will decline to place a 74-year old, buffoonish warmonger into the White House, but the election is apt to be close. Oh, and another thing, while the Reagan Democrats (most of whom are probably registered Republicans by now anyway) may prefer Hillary to Obama, I really doubt she will have their votes locked up in November, were she to be the nominee.
Speaking as a Repubican, I hope the Democrats do win this year, even if its Hillary. I live in a safely blue state, so I will be free to cast my ballot for some third party candidate more to my liking, but John McInsane would be much worse for this country than Obama or The Cuckold. We can't afford another war with Iran, period.

I see once again that the neo-cons are having a hard time with the term "legal" . Imagine!
The elections chief in Ohio's most populous county resigned Tuesday, ending a tenure that included the mishandled recount of President Bush's narrow 2004 win in Ohio that gave him a second term.
Under executive director Michael Vu, Cuyahoga County had a botched primary last May and saw the convictions last month of two workers who rigged the presidential recount so they could avoid a more thorough review of the ballots.
The actions of the two workers, whom the board fired Tuesday, did not affect the outcome of the election. But the convictions were the final black eye for Vu, 30, who led the elections board through its rocky transition from punch-card to electronic voting.
-----
March 17, 2008
At least 15 touch-screen voting machines that produced improbable numbers in Ohio's 2006 statewide election are now under double-lock in an official crime scene. And the phony "Homeland Security Alert" used by Republicans to build up George W. Bush's 2004 vote count in a key southwestern Ohio county has come under new scrutiny.
The touch-screen machines were locked up after Ohio's new Democratic Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, tried to vote last fall. On November 6, she spotted a gray bar with the words "candidate withdrawn" in a slot where the name of Democrat Jay Perez should have appeared. Her husband, voting nearby, told her Perez's name did appear, as it was supposed to, on his machine.
Perez had been a candidate in the race for Franklin County Municipal Judge. He withdrew his name after the county had finalized its ballots. But it now appears the ES&S machines left his name on some machines but not on others. Perez, a Democrat, wanted to avoid playing a spoiler in the race. But the appearance of his name on some machines may have helped Republican David Tyack win.
Brunner now worries that the state will never find out what happened. County election officials ordered the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to seize the machines. Ohio Attorney General Mark Dann is conducting an investigation that may cost the state $48,000. Brunner recently told WVKO 1580AM radio: "When you're talking about democracy, it's priceless." In another interview with the Columbus Dispatch, Brunner noted "This is a huge problem. There is great concern that not every voter has the same ballot."
Thus far Brunner has forced the resignations of BOE chairs in two of Ohio's most populous cities, Cleveland and Columbus.
Matt Damschroder was removed as Franklin County Board of Elections Director on the Sunday prior to Ohio's 2008 primary election. Damschroder was previously suspended for a month without pay for accepting a $10,000 check from a voting machine salesman at the BOE building. The check, made out to the Republican Party, was delivered on the day the state's contracts for electronic voting machines were open for bidding. Damschroder was former chair of the Franklin County Republican Party and the state's leading foe of paper ballots. "Damschroder was very opposed to paper ballots and was stoking the fire against them," Brunner told WVKO.

This article it typical of facist propaganda regularly posted by The Nation & The New Republic. Read your history, folks. This "magazine" use to prostrate at the feet of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Karl Marx, and pretty much every other leftist thug that has come around the block.
The "Loyalty Oath" smacks of Communist Party tactics. It's clearly unconstitutional to regulate one's intent. Why was it a wonderful idea for Democrats & Independents to vote in the early states for McCain, but now it's a horrible idea for Republicans (whose vote in the Republican Primary is meaningless now) to vote in the Democratic Primary?
The answer is because progressives don't need to be consistent because their beliefs are based on feeling and emotion rather than reality.
Both Democratic candidates are socialists, and McCain isn't much better because all three candidates will destroy our economy because all 3 believe in the global warming hoax and they will pass new taxes to "regulate" carbon emissions. News flash for all you "progressives" out there. The climate always changes. It has cycled in a 1500 year cycle for the last several million years. There is nothing we can do to change that. If you really want to buy some carbon credits, feel free to send me money.

Thanks for the response LVL.
I have learned to be more discriminating about the threads to join in dialogue.
I do the same. The problem I have is that while I appreciate the fact that some people that self-identify as "conservative" get involved with this forum to have some back and forth with getting a more "left" perspective and presenting their own, when they come to represent a significant portion of the commentary, then it changes the nature of the forum itself. It's seems to me to be a type of tragedy of the commons.
You are absolutely correct SRJ that we appear to be getting large waves on both the right and left of "true believers" from other blogs.
But I don't think "true believers" are the problem. You and I would likely be described as "true believers" by others - but we can have a dialogue, even to the extent that I'm calling you crazy, and it still be interesting and useful.
I think you are right about this particular wave that it is being directed from elsewhere, but it is indictative of the larger problem of people whose sole purpose seems to be griefing others, which is why I posted it here.
As for Rush Limbaugh, I don't think much about him. He obviously doesn't define the conservative movement, not because he isn't conservative - which he may be - but because he doesn't have any ideas, just has a knack for phrasing things to get attention. He's like Howard Stern but instead of obsessing about sex, he obsesses on right wing politics.
Posted by srjenkins at 03/26/2008 @ 08:37am
I think you Rush listeners have a dilemma. Rush has repeatedly said that one of the things he abhors the most is sheep. Yet, that is precisely what he depends upon. He is your shepherd and you are the sheep. He says go do something and you do. He says jump, you jump. You don't even ask how high, you just jump.
I don't see Rush as the hypocrite, he's in the entertainment industry. He's loving every bit of this. You folks who have posted here today (and yesterday but will be gone tomorrow when Rush sends you on another errand) so idolize Rush that you do his bidding without question. Just like....sheep.
I have much more respect for the conservative republicans that are regulars here who think for themselves and are firm in their opinions without their opinions being dictated to them by Rush Limbaugh. Most of you newbie posters (Rush listeners who will be herded by Rush elsewhere tomorrow) are frankly, scary. If you are so unhappy in your lives that Rush spurs you to froth at the mouth and spew hatred everywhere, you really ought to turn off the radio and go outside.

They only showed up here because they read about "The Nation" article on Rush's website. Soon as it "moves down" the thread and Limbaugh starts in on something new today (Probably the Hillary "sniper fire" thing...but not TOO much, as he's got to keep her in the running)....they'll be off to HuffPost or someplace else to defend the Maha-rushi.
And we'll be back to the "Usual Suspects" of right-wingers who've we've come to know and love here.

I am neither republican or democrat, because they walk too close to the same line. However, how is the voting in Texas or Ohio any different than those prior primaries where democrats were encouraged to "assist" republicans in selecting their candidate? For that matter, how much different is it than any other election in which the candidate who won was not the best person for the job, but rather the one who had the most money or best press coverage? The country will have to face the fact that our choices this year for president are three facets of the same person. One woman, one minority, one old white man -- one mindset. Depresses the hell out of me. Hope you morons enjoy what you've set up. Personally, I think that it's time to teach my sons extra survival skills. Johnny Canuck said "Jeremiah Wright does not hate white people. He was smeared. If you listen to his sermons in their entirety, you will realize this."
Curious, Johnny. Did you ask to hear Michael Richards' entire standup routine the night he slandered black patrons with racial epithets in an LA comedy club? Did you listen to Imus' entire morning show in order to discover the context in which he said 'nappy-headed hos'? Did you investigate what else Trent Lott might have said on Strom Thurmond's birthday that justified his saying a segregationist should have been elected president? Or the full context of what Geraldine Ferraro said about Obama that might have been exculpatory? No you didn't, did you? You didn't because you didn't NEED a context, did you? "Nappy-headed hos" stands alone in its slander just fine, doesn't it?
Besides, what context, EXACTLY, justifies ranting that the white US government invented AIDS to inject into the black community for the express purpose of white-on-black genocide? Do you understand the SCALE of what that statement implies? The unreality of it? What POSSIBLE context justifies shouting that insane conspiracy theory to an audience full of impressionable young black children? Or that 9/11 was justified, which happens to be the same viewpoint as bin Laden's?
What does it say about Obama's judgment that his daughters, who live in more privileged circumstances than 99% of the population, will like their mother grow up resenting if not hating white people and the country for no good reason but that a racist preacher and grievance-mongering subculture told them it was the right thing to do? Sorry, but Wright smeared himself, and Obama in the process. Lie down with dogs, you get fleas.
No. NOT THIS TIME! You, and all the glassy-eyed True Believers and even the press may give Obama a pass. Millions of voters like me, both black AND white, will not come Election Day. He's done.
There was a very surprising (to me) OpEd by a civil rights leader and president of the NAACP in New York, Michael Meyers, who wrote extensively on this in "Obama Blew It." Maybe you should check it out. Don't take a white man's word for it. It's not like you could trust us or anything like that.

Maybe the MADKING (what what) should look up the law in Ohio, and then look up an acutal definition of fascism. big difference between an "open primary" and a closed one. If the law says one may not switch parties, then that is what it means. If the law says one may vote in either primary, the one may do so. apparently Ohio is a closed system and any "intent" to manipulate another parties primary is against the law. That cannot be the case in an open primary, such as the fiasco in MI.
Posted by crabwalk at 03/26/2008 @ 12:16pm
As a libertarian, I will probably vote for McCain in the general election. But who are you to say I should not be allowed to choose who I could like to run against him? This is just the same as saying that republicans should not be allowed to vote on a democratic ballot primary when their party has already chosen a candidate. This just seems sorely unfair. Don't you think? Why lock someone into a party? This just continuous partisan politics, regardless of what Rush Limbaugh says.

Operation Chaos must go through the Democrat convention! The objective here is to keep Mrs. Clinton in a proper frame of mind, a positive spirit surrounding her and her campaign, so that she sees this through. We want her all the way to the convention, and we want her stealing the nomination from Barack Obama, or at least trying to. This is no time to abandon Mrs. Clinton. Do not let anything that you have heard about her Bosnia lie dissuade you from supporting her in upcoming Democrat primaries.

Interesting analysis but completely in denial. First, The Nation writes a story about it reporting with a bit of glee that perhaps crossovers and even Rush might be indicted. Second, we are all here discussing it. So you declare that Rush is irrelevant. ...um, ok... The fact is that if Obama had won in Texas and Ohio Hillary would have been forced to pull out of the race. But since she came away with some victories thanks to the irrelevant one (ha ha) she is vowing to stick in the race. This is causing chaos in the Dem party. just as planned. ha ha ha ha ha and your denials are making you look like you are nobody. even funnier.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/26/2008 @ 2:45pm
graphicdave-As I stated before.I'm not a democrat.I've voted for both parties about equally.Partisan people are the biggest problem that America has because partisan people are braindead sheep who do what they're told to do and America needs free thinkers..That's what we were founded on.

Posted by i'm nobody at 03/26/2008 @ 2:49pm
"partisan people are braindead sheep" - The way to get things done is to ensure that the party who's ideas you support have enough votes and support within the government to get things done. Have a spine and decide what you are for! Good God Man! Applying "moderate" principles to an elevator ride will keep you on the first floor.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/26/2008 @ 2:55pm
What y'all seem to ignore is the fact that the sweet Dems did this first.. in Iowa and in New Hampshire. They continued it in So. Carolina. Even more so in Florida. You picked the Republican candidate. Why didn't you scream when that happened? Ugly facts you like to ignore.
Posted by gimpylaz at 03/26/2008 @ 3:02pm
McCain is often referred to as a "Maverick". What for? because he sometimes goes against his own party. A free thinker eh? ...So, using your logic, crossovers who voted for Hillary are Mavericks! Long Live the Mavericks!
Posted by graphicdav at 03/26/2008 @ 3:04pm
graphicdave-Supporting a party isn't the way to get things done. You sheep are the reason that nothing gets done and the reason that nothing changes. You partisan people vote against your own best interest because you're braindead sheep. This country was founded by free thinkers and not partisan politicians. You partisan people are the problem. You are not the solution. These politicians know that you will vote for them because you're told to so they don't care what you think once they get your vote.

It amazes me how blatantly cowardly the neo-con fascists can be. But then again, how much courage does it take to murder innocent people to satiate blood lust and blind hate. I wish these cowards would stop hiding behind their own version of PC jargon, and admit that they hate Muslims the same way Hilter hated Jews. Anyone capable of rational thought knows why they support Bush's terrorist holy war. And since we're on the topic of conservative political correctivism, be honest with yourselves, for once, and start calling it homophobia instead of "defense of marriage". Talk about political correctivism at it's worst. When it comes to PC jargon, the "liberals" have nothing on these fascists.
To DRDOPPLER: "PS As a PA resident, guess who I'm voting for next Month!!" I imagine you will be voting for the John "Hilter incarnate II" McCain, just like you are told to. Unless of course you are so misinformed as to think that Rush doesn't make up everything he says, in which case you'll be voting for Clinton. Of course, the best plan would be to have a little self respect, stop letting other people think for you, and make up your own mind for once, Winston. But wait; do you guys even remember what it's like to think for yourselves. No, of course not...
You know the best thing about Bush country? It can be burned to the ground, clearing the way for new, better, and stronger growth in what had formerly been a wasteland.

When exactly did we lose? I mean, there have been two fixed elections in which the people were denied their chosen president, but we didn't lose. And we're supposed to believe that liberals hate America? While the mindless neo-con slaves support ignoring the Constitution and side-stepping our "demockratic" system. Is that why we are murdering people to bring them democracy? So it can be ignored and destroyed here at home?
After (8) years of your unelected Big Brother, and all the hate that you've so lovingly embraced (because you want to help people? ha ha, right...), if another religiously fanatical, war-mongering moron gets "elected" (McCain, for those of you not educated enough to figure that out on your own), the entire world will "lose". Not just America, and not just "Liberals". Seriously, what have the neo-cons actually ever done for you? I don't mean, what have they SAID they did for you, but what have they actually done? Other than making sure they tell you every lie they have to, in order to keep you as slaves on their corporate plantation, of course.
PS, have you guys ever looked up "liberal" in a dictionary? It's not much of an insult, unless you are a Nazi sympathizer. Wait. Do you even know how to use a dictionary? And I guess Bush supporters are Nazi sympathizers by definition, aren't they?

To I'm Nobody; Read Revelation Chapter 2! I understand some people getting angry at inane, upside down legal issues, don't you! Are you happy with your candidates? I do not like any of them. I do not dislike liberals, my whole family is far Left. I think that if you have courage you listen to both sides. What is this disabled thing about? You are so sure about something that you more than likely heard 3rd person. I'm a registered Democrat since 1974 and it is not the same party. Now its the New World Order Party and sad to say many Republican's are a part of this UN world leadership nonsense. It gets scarier everyday. Our news industry is geared towards a World Govt. It gets harder to sort out the BS everyday. So operation Chaos is a clever snipe at a group of people that do not have our personal or national best interests at hand. Clinton could have stopped Osama! He didn't. We still have the same amount of people on welfare as 10 yr.'s ago. We set up big feel good Bureaucracy's that fail every-time yet if someone tries to fix it there screaming it will kill kids,or poor folks. Oh, was that your failed attempt at rational thought, GRAPHICDAV? Your comment didn't even make any sense. Did I say there HADN'T been a record? That's something that I didn't feel needed to be pointed out, since it's pretty much common sense. Of course, for you, common sense is like a deep, philosophical thought experiment, I guess, huh? So, you had to point it out because you thought it was some AMAZING revelation.
Interesting how you have aligned yourself with the GOP unquestioningly, falling into lock-step behind every hate-based party lie you are told to believe, and you tell ME to use my brain? No surprise. Since you allow your party owners to think for you, why should I expect you to be capable of recognizing when some IS using their brain? You don't have proper clearance and authorization to think so far out of the box, huh?

I guess you got me Sith... now back to the point, a Reporter asks Hillary, "You and your campaign have been talking about Florida and Michigan, saying that Obama wants to disenfranchise voters there by not backing revotes. If this ends up going to the convention and the superdelegates decide, how is that not disenfranchising voters?" and Hillary's answer, "We have to wait and see is what happens in the next three months, and there's been a lot of talk about what if, what if, what if? Let's wait 'til we get some facts. People are going to vote over the next months. Uh, millions of people are going to vote and, uh, we should wait and see the outcome of those votes."

I got to say I have never seen a President get so much vile attacks as Bush. It is even worse than Nixon! Bush's popularity rating is higher than Harry Reids or sweet Nancy's. Beside lib's, do you think Hillary or Obama are going to lose this war on there watch? If you do you got another thing coming! Who is lied to here, Hillary voted for the war! Obama is a coward hiding his racism and you guys eat it up. It is truly funny. Sith, with his free thinking neocom, gee who came up with that original free thinking moniker! Your a brain washed dweb. Ha ha. Man, you are simple minded, aren't you, GRAPHICDAV? I have a 3 year old niece that is more mature than you seem to be. If this is what the GOP has to offer, then we really are in trouble, and I'm glad I'm smart enough not to allow myself to deteriorate all the way down to that level. Thanks for proving my earlier point about lack of cognitive brain function though. You just made it even easier, and far more pointedly than I could have phrased it. I wasn't saying that you made up the quote (though I wouldn't put something like that past a Bush/Rush supporter. I mean, when it comes to making stuff up, what better teacher could you ask for than George and Rush?) I've no doubt that she said that. What I meant was your assumed and unexplained connection between her statement and Rush's terrorist plot to undermine the American people's election process (again!). Oh, but I had better explain that one too, for the simple minded. I'm not implying that Rush had anything to do with the fixing of the last two elections, only that he's trying to make sure that the next one is fixed as well. Should I draw you a picture?
Back to the point, indeed. What is your point? Do you have one, or are you just throwing out hate-speech? Other than a few insults and canned, GOP catch phrases, I haven't seen anything from you that even remotely resembles a point, much less a coherent arguement! I mean, you so proudly support unfair elections, apparently, but liberals and Democrats are the ones who supposedly "hate America"? How does that work, exactly?
This is just the type of nonsense I've come to expect from the people who, by blindly supporting Resident Bush's Muslim Holocaust, have themselves murdered more Americans than Bin Laden. If terrorism and killing of innocent people is wrong, then it's wrong no matter who does it. Bottom line is that while Bush's supporters try to claim that they are better than the Taliban, I fail to even see how they are any different… And as for the freedom haters comment above (posted by Golem apparently), Bush has attempted to eliminate more freedoms here than any other president in history. "They hate us for our freedom" seems to apply to the terrorists who support Bush more so than the ones that attacked us on 9-11. It's a simple case of what psychologists call projection. I'll let you look that one up for yourselves...
Posted by sithspawn at 03/26/2008 @ 7:32pm
I really do have to go now but before I do let me draw you a picture Sith... Had Obama smoked Clinton in Texas and Ohio Democrat party officials would have insisted she drop out. Since she has new momentum provided by crossover voters she continues to hang on. (providing much entertainment to this simple-minded Republican) I look forward to your brilliant response but, alas, I must wait until tomorrow. 'til then. cheers

Posted by DADDUDE 03/26/2008 @ 7:07pm
You have got to be kidding me. Dude, I'm down with the blunt, but if I wanted to learn something, listening to Rush is the last thing I would do. Unless I wanted to "learn" complete bulls$%t. THEN I would listen to Rush (or just talk to GRAPHICDAV some more). If you had any idea what you were talking about, then you would know that. But then, if you knew that, you wouldn't listen to Rush.
Can anybody tell me even one thing that the guy has said that can actually be backed up with any sort of evidence? EVER? Anything that isn't obviously biased, or outright fabrication, or where he leaves out or misrepresents relevant facts? Good luck. You're going to need it.
BTW, apparently you guys have made the false assumption that I'm a Democrat!? Speaking of group think in the GOP, the same thing happens with the Dems too, no doubt. That's why I will never join a political gang (Democrips and Rebloodliquada). Both sides allow their party leaders to think for them, because as soon as you align yourself with a party, you've made the decision that that party is correct, all the time, unquestioningly. GRAPHICDAV proves that with ease. Apparently the party leaders of both sides have gotten together and decided that there are only (2) types of people in this country? So much for freedom, huh?
However, I have voted Democrat in the past and no doubt will have to in the future. I wish I had a more worthy choice, but I don't, because the deck is stacked. However, I'll vote Democrat because SO much of the GOP rhetoric is so obviously ridiculous. Republicans seem to support the wealthy few, while Dems at least try to support policies that attempt to balance things out. After all, this country supposedly belongs to all of us, not just the people who sit back, do nothing, and reap the benefits. Reps would rather use money to kill people than to help them, apparently.
Bottom line is that when you are voting for the lesser of two evils, you are still voting for evil, right?
Posted by sithspawn at 03/26/2008 @ 8:03pm
Since she has new momentum provided by crossover voters she continues to hang on.

The left needs to realize that they and no one else are responsible for their current election woes. Rush did not create super delegates. He did not decide to award delegates in proportion to the popular vote. That was democrat party officials. Those two things combined make it obvious that the party wants the ability to choose a candidate based on the opinion of a handful of party big-wigs. If that is not the intended purpose then they are guilty of a lack of foresight, because it is an obvious recipe for what you have today. Giving delegates in proportion to the popular vote sounds fair, and maybe it is. Many may believe that this is the proper way to do it. But is also going to keep the process drawn out and brutal. Which is exactly what you have now. Having super delegates is simply a way to make certain people's vote more valuable than others. What other purpose could there be? The thought being that the Ted Kennedys and Howard Deans of the world are smarter than the average voter. If this is not the thought than why not just add up the delegates won by the popular vote and declare the winner the nominee? Not counting the delegates in Florida and Michigan is not Rush's fault. Howard Dean should be fired for that stunt. Obama was stupid to not put his name on the ballot in Florida. They pledged not to campaign, but he could have registered. If he had done so they would now be counting the delegates he would have won and Hillary would possibly be finished or more likely to withdraw. If the republicans who are voting at Rush's suggestion should not count then Hillary should see this drop out. If operation chaos is not working then it is having no effect and you would have this turmoil regardless. Democrats could stop the blood-letting simply by getting Hillary to drop out. She has virtually no chance in the real world, and if somehow she does manage to convince enough super delegates to give her the nomination the Barack supporters will scream bloody murder and the party will be shredded. But just like her husband not being willing to admit guilt and get on with things, she is going to fight to the bitter end and hope to damage Obama so much that the super delegates feel compelled to choose her based on who they feel is more able to beat McCain. If you go back you will notice that the Clinton's always put their personal success ahead of the party and they are at it again. The party has brought this on itself. Blaming others will solve nothing.

I'm sorry for the miss understanding. This is a election year of evils! In this great country this is the best we can come up with! We are in for a world of hurts! This two party system, which are not too different from each other. I bet they have little parties and laugh about us peons. They have pensions, yearly pay-raises, health care. They are truly the ruling elite. If you are liberal or Conservative try to get rid of the incumbents, that is the last chance to change anything. McCain is at least honest enough to admit the Iraq war will go on. But lets hope he doesn't decide to call marshall law or destroy our sovereignty in the name United Nations Cooperation.

That may be so, but it doesn't make it any less true. The point is, wouldn't it be better if we didn't have overly-powerful partys telling us who we are ALLOWED to elect, so that we didn't have to make such a limited choice. Eliminate the delegates, and let us vote from the first to the last.

And the right needs to realize that the left isn't just the democratic party. Some of us "lefties" (whatever that means) don't need masters. Which is why so many of us oppose blind complacancy to capitalism, corporate slavery, and party politics.
I'm not sure if you realize it, but you've just proven my point. If the problems the Dems are facing are due to their electoral process (something I actually agree with, to a point) then why do we see the Rush-puppets claiming his Operation Chaos is responsible for Hillary still being in the running? It's contradictory.
But just like her husband not being willing to admit guilt and get on with things

Guilty of what, exactly? Having an affair that had nothing whatsoever to do with his job, aside from potential abuse of power that Bush has FAR GREATLY exceeded. An affair that was no one's business but his and Hillary's (and to a lesser extent, Chelsea's and Monica's). And to be honest, I can't see how Bill abused his power in any way that differs from some rock star "abusing" his power over some groupie. I mean, yes, if Monica was raped or talked into it, then that's one thing. But if she consented, even if it was just a ploy to get herself into the spotlight for a bit, then it was still not a matter for national interest. Except that we are kept to be more concerned with who is sleeping with who, than we are to be concerned with things that actually matter (like the fact that we were lied into a war that has killed more Americans than 9-11, but if we question it, then somehow WE are un-patriotic? That's concerning.). I mean, during that time, most of the rest of the "civilized" world was laughing at us, as they are now, for being so petty and childish.
And remember, it was Ken Starr and the GOP that drug things out, not the Clintons.

Posted by DADDUDE 03/26/2008 @ 9:24pm
Correction. He's "honest" enough to declare that, against the will of the American people, like his predecessor, he wants to perpetuate a war that is already lost, could never have been won, and will only serve to get us attacked again. After all, we have been invading, attacking, and killing these people for over 50 years, and that's just in terms of our oil interests. No matter how much some of us don't want to admit it, 9-11 was a counterstrike. It doesn't matter if we agree, or if we think it was justified. They have suffered atrocities at the hands of America's political leaders long before Bush illegally invaded Iraq.
Posted by sithspawn at 03/26/2008 @ 11:42pm

We've already wasted trillions of dollars murdering innocent people in Iraq {snicker}? My, how the money flies when your bigoted, GOP leaders aren't paying the bill. Especially when they can use it as a political ploy to blame Dems for having to raise taxes in order to pay off the debts that Bush has driven up so senselessly. Oh, and I'm sorry, but aren't the largest Communist nations in history, REPUBLICAN countries? The Peoples REPUBLIC of China? The United Soviet Socialist REPUBLIC? Of course, USSR is a misnomer since Russia was anything but socialist. Oh, and I guess I had best point out that communism and socialism aren't the same thing, though I doubt you'll be able to wrap your brain around that one. Too much McCarthy Era brainwashing, I'll bet. Get the idea though? Nice try, lambchop. Talk about bent commie logic. I will hand it to Bush though, that he has done an amazingly inept job of somehow melding fascism and communism into a completely dysfunctional political ideology.
Yes, they have been held down by their rulers. Rulers that we've had no problem funding, supporting, endorsing, training, and doing business with, with little to no care for the people of these countries (or our own for that matter). Our political and corporate leaders have been their ruler's rulers. Or have your keepers not told you the truth about how we trained Bin Laden to fight against the Russians in Afghanistan and to destroy the democratic government that existed at the time? Mainly because our corporations didn't like the prices they were quoted, and because we "had" to fight the Russians. Not because they were communist though, but rather because they weren't us and therefore they threatened our power. Have they not told you that we armed and empowered Saddam, and that he got the gas he allegedly used on his own people from the US? Of course, at the time, Saddam and Daddy Bush were good buddies. Bush senior wanted to use Saddam to attack Iran so he wouldn't have to bloody up the pseudo-noble US's reputation (too late actually), so they blamed Iran for the gassing of the Kurds.
It wasn't until we got attacked that we started to care about the terrorism that the rest of the world has been dealing with for YEARS, but it still isn't about the people, now is it? If America were actually interested in helping these people, we wouldn't have expected discounts all these years. We would have been donating and expecting little in return, because that is what charity means. We would have taken the billions to trillions of dollars that we will be spending on this pointless crusade to build school & hospitals & mosques. Instead we're using that money to make bombs and pay hired mercenaries to fight a war so unpopular that we can't even get enough "real soldiers" to sign up to fight. Meanwhile, it is in the merc's financial best interest to drag this thing out for as long as they can, to make as much money as they can. That's crapitalism at it worst and most common. Which is why so many of our jobs are going overseas. The corporate CEO's don't care about creating jobs or helping people. They just care about making a profit, no matter who they are dealing with in order to make it, even if it means dealing with terrorists and dictators (see above). The reality is that the reason we have it so good here is because other countries have it so bad, and we take advantage of that at every opportunity. No, America is not really the cause of the worlds problems; just the biggest benefactor. And cutting off of foreign aid is the axe we swing above their heads. How noble, indeed.
Yes, Clinton absolutely did bomb Serbia, and it was just as wrong for him to have done that then as it was for Bush to be doing it now. Just as it was equally wrong of Bush to claim he supports anti-nuclear proliferation efforts (of course WE'RE still making them though), and so he turns around and sells nuclear secrets to Turkey? Saddam supposedly had WMDs? Where are they? Not that it matters, since we have them too. Typical American arrogance and xenophobia, one of the other primary reasons we were attacked. Apparently we've decided that they don't get to play with the same toys we do. The trick is that we don't generally invade with our military. We just fund other military & terrorist groups (and still are in South America) to do our dirty work for us. When we've invaded the middle east, we do it economically. We turn a blind eye to the suffering of these people, so long as their dictators give us cheap oil. I guess I'm just not naïve enough to call that innocence on the part of the US. Not the people, but rather the foreign policy. After all, the American people are really only told what our corporate controlled media and political leaders want us to know. Anything else, and you have to go outside of the US to get an outside perspective.

I wonder why there wasn't this type of outrage over the vote swapping scheme that took place between Al Gore supporters and Ralph Nader supporters in the 2000 General election?
supporters for Gore in solidly "blue" states were swapping vote pledges with Nader supporters in more closely contested states in hopes of defeating Bush. It seems hypocritical to criticize one scheme and not the other.
Besides, Clinton doesn't need Limbaugh to get the nomination. Everyone knows that while the voters want Obama, the Clintons own the DNC and will find some way to steal the nomination before it is all over.

All right. "post 50 or 6 of your positions" and let us decide. All right. Abortion is wrong -- but I see that some people think that they have to use it. Their children are better off without parents who dont want them. Those who abort will have to take that up with their creator later. Drug war is useless, although drug use is wrong. Those persons should be separated from the general population until they grow up enough to take care of themselves. Organized religion fulfills a need for some, but can be harmful when abused. Illegal immigrants should be shot at the border and their carcasses left as warning (yes, its draconian). If you murder, you die. Period. People need to take more personal responsibility for their actions and quit expecting the government (or anyone else for that matter) to pick up after their screwups. Homosexuality is a genetic trait. So is psychotic behavior in many instances. Neither is acceptable. Homosexuality violates the single natural purpose of genitalia -- that is, procreation. Have humans subverted that purpose? Probably. Does that allow for homosexuality, bestiality, or other abrogations of natural law. NO. Ability to scientifically accomplish nature's intent has no bearing on the correctness, either. To those of you who are freaking out and calling me a right wing, neo-con, christian whatever -- I don't think that I'm christian, either. I dont have a problem with those who are. I dont have a problem with those who arent. Believe what you will in that regard. While I hold a mixed bag of view, there is one constant -- things in general are black and white (no, that's NOT a race thing). There are no grays. Compromise is for people with no backbone. Acceptance of the differing views of others is not compromise. While I accept your right to be wrong (in my view), that doesnt make you any less wrong (again, my view). Because of that, I will fight you -if that's what you want. I work with a liberal democrat. He and I are diametrically opposed to one another's views. He and I are also friends, primarily because we recognize the other's right to be wrong in those views. People who can't do that are not truly American.

what they intended was rule by and for the rich. what they intended was slavery forever. what they intended was women as chattel.
Emily, What a sad understanding of the founders. Yes, they were the rich men of their communities. Those were the only men with the means to be able to accomplish such an audacious act. Prior to that point, no uprising in history led by the underclasses succeeded for long. No uprising CAN succeed without some support of those with power and wealth. The founders were split on slavery, for the most part. As was the majority of the country. Those who felt that they had to have it, justified it. Kind of like drug users. Those who did not need it either didn't like it or didn't care one way either way. "women as chattel". There is no denying that they viewed women in a different light. The majority of them simply respected women differently because their culture viewed women differently. It is difficult for us to judge them for that view because our views are so different. To continue to judge someone from a prior age based solely on view from the current age is short sighted and calls the intelligence of the judge into question. I am not rich, by any stretch. My wife and I filed taxes on less than $80,000 income this year. I was not in this country during slavery, nor were all but a handful of my relatives, who lived on the northern frontier. My wife and I have been married for almost 18 years and together for almost 24. Unfortunately you've stepped off into the cliched assumptions based on my beliefs that I am probably a rich, racist, sexist, probably mysoginistic white male. Parts of that are correct. Most is terrible wrong and insulting. The founders were NOT perfect. Am I? Are you? They were (for their era) the epitome of philosophical thought and innovation. Rather than continuing to wallow in their self pity and blaming others (past and present), they chose a course of action which threatened everything they knew. The risks they took for what was, for them, freedom and liberty were extraordinary. To abase that sacrifice by belittling them for widely held (again, their time) cultural view is ugly and mean spirited. The majority of the rich got that way because they worked for it. Are there those who utilized vicious tactics and abuse others to get where they are? Hell, yes! They still arent the majority. Slavery died with the Civil War. Did the death throes take decades? Well, duh. Try to eliminate any culture wide influence (particularly one with strong economic ties) and see if you can do better. I know that I can't. Ideas die in cultures because enough members of the group finally believe that it is wrong. Women. Tougher. There is always going to be tension between the sexes. There is too much history to not be. Have men as a group denied women a proper place in society? Probably. Part of this was because in ancient history, physical strength had more to do with survival than now. There are STILL jobs which most women should not do. Sorry, reality sucks. Are there women capable of those jobs? Sure. Some can excell. Are there men who can't do those jobs adequately. Sure. As with all things, we should defer to one principal -- can the tasks be accomplish and who is best at it? Pure ability. How do you know ability without trying? You don't. Individual cases where persons are unwilling to try an individual based on their gender should be prosecuted. As a whole, it' unnecessary and a waste of time. Are there men who treat women poorly? Yes. Are there women who treat men poorly? Yes. Also members of either gender who treat members of their own gender like garbage. Or just everyone they meet. You cant effectively regulate humane treatment or respect until parents teach it. An individual cant demand respect, they can only earn it. Some will NEVER give it, no matter how much one tries to force them. It only ticks them off. I've lectured too long. Sorry. That was presumptious of me. I know deep down that we will not see eye to eye on this (or, most likely, much else.) I will leave with an understanding with you (if you will allow it) to agree to disagree. I hope you find comfort in your positions.

Drug war is useless, although drug use is wrong. Those persons should be separated from the general population until they grow up enough to take care of themselves. Organized religion fulfills a need for some, but can be harmful when abused. Illegal immigrants should be shot at the border and their carcasses left as warning (yes, its draconian)
this kind of stuff is really beyond the pale. you are a disgusting individual peddling repulsive views.

Who has been manipulating the voting public for the last many years? Who has been planting fake documents and stories to influence elections? Who has been making up phony polls and poll questions before elections, pushing a particular point of view? And who has been ignoring important stories affecting the candidates they favored?
Who has been running puff pieces on their favorites? Who's been running trumped up hit pieces on those candidates they despised?
And now, a harmless, lovable little fuzzball like RUsh comes along, and explains and exploits a loophole in Democrat primaries, and that information has impacted the nominating process. The result? All hell has broken loose.
That's because voter education was not supposed to be Rush's job. Manipulating election results has been the sole responsibility of the Drive-By Media. At least that's the tradition. They are the ones who reserve exclusively for themselves, the right to tamper with and monkey around with election results, to manipulate them.
Now Rush hascome along, gotten in the game, and they are frosted. Rush had the temerity to tinker with a tradition, a liberal Democrat tradition: voter manipulation. Rush had the temerity, Rush had the audacity, Rush had the courage to get in that game himself, to tinker with what they thought was theirs. And they say, "How dare Limbaugh do this?" and they say, "Limbaugh, you will pay. Your job is to shut up and leave electioneering to the main stream media."

Amazing how disagreeing with someone or having a different view results in being branded a racist, fascist, nazi, repulsive, ad nauseum.
When anyone on the right makes a point, it is greeted not with genuine discussion of the merits or a counterpoint, but with insults. The presumption that Rush listeners are uneducated mind numbed robots, that the right supports murder, and only cares about the wealthy is fascinating when you realize this is coming from those who claim to be the "open minded" among us.
The fact is that most of the left leaning public will never understand, nor be able to effectively debate with the majority of us who truly believe that our country is God's greatest gift to mankind, liberty and the world. Their intellectual capacity is sapped completely whenever anyone uses the name Bush, or attempts to explain the overwhelming success of the war on terror and the security it has brought to, not only our country, but most to the majority of the world.
And best of all it pisses them off to no end! ;)
Keep up the good work dittoheads, Long Live Operation Chaos!

Why is it arrogance or implied fascism to acknowledge the good that our nation has accomplished? No other country has done more for the benefit of mankind, liberty and justice than the US. This country has thrice saved the world from the evils that the left accuses the US of espousing such as fascism, and the ideologies the left supports socialism, and communism.

It is not our government that makes it great. It is (partially) our form of government that allows ordinary people to acomplish extrodinary things. Which is one reason I'm a Republican, I support that limited for of government to get out of the way of us people.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/27/2008 @ 3:42pm
Too bad not every one appreciates our country. I've been watching John Adams on HBO and though it sped through the run up to independence and the actual Revo War quite quickly, it still leaves a weighty impression of the risks taken by so many.
I think most of the men and women fighting for us today understand the words "we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor". Pretty hefty words. It is apparent that not everyone understands.
get ready to duck, more insults on their way in 5..4..3..
Posted by fatboy02 at 03/27/2008 @ 3:50pm
I agree that it is not government itself which is great. When I speak of our country I certainly don't refer to the government, but rather to the beliefs and principals that value individualism and liberty over collectivism.
But that is an interesting concept, I'm sure when some hear those of us who feel blessed to be Americans praising the US, they may mistaken believe we are praising government, which has always been a force for oppression and the acquisition of power over others.
I'm not sure any form of government can be good, just better. We happen to have one of the better forms, a republic, which not only allows for individual choice (the pursuit of happiness), but also allows us to dismantle and reform it when it begins to oppress. We may soon have need for that option again

Fatboy & Graphicdav, I love you guys! Not only did we save the world, but as conquerers we gave the losers there country back. It is so sad that people have a misguided outlook of our country. I have become far more conservative as I get older. I can hardly vote for any candidate anymore. Our care in fighting in Iraq is a great example of how much we value life. To a lib that will sound absurd, but we could have saturation bombed like Clinton did in Serbia. This has put our troops at a greater danger, which I do not like. America must walk tall and carry a big stick! who cares what any country thinks! To stay true to the forum, It is funny how the the libs are wetting there linen over there honorable indignation. What? You guys ARE f&%king nuts! I mean, how did we save the world? And where will this stop? Do we now get to invade EVERY country that won't sell us cheap oil and let us exploit their labor force and third-world economy? At what point will someone need to save the world from US? At least you can admit that we are conquerors, but WHEN did we give them their country back exactly? We're still there, aren't we? Defending not the people, but the puppet, colonial government we forced upon them with "elected" officials hand picked by the Bush Administration. The people, well, that's who we're killing. And, killing people shows how much you value life how, exactly? Typical example of how Rush-puppets falsely assume that by simply saying something, then it makes it true. After all, Rush does it all the time, rarely giving any evidence to back up his misguided opinions. Yes, it is indeed very sad the YOU have such a misguided opinion of our country, that you've decided that we are incapable of coming up with a better, more peaceful solution than war.
What you said isn't simply absurd. It's downright Orwellian. War is peace so let's screw for virginity too, huh (sorry to have to sound like a bumper sticker, but since you do too, why not?)? I mean, why bother saturation bombing Iraq, when the Pentagon, the largest terrorist organization in the world, can just order our troops to use the Iraqi people as blast shields and let the insurgents do the dirty work. How brave! And economical, too! I can't even figure out why you guys have to ask why you get called fascists. I wonder if Hitler told himself that kind of crap while he was "saving" the world from the Jews. If we wanted to show the world that we valued life, we would have at least TRIED another solution first, instead of IMMEDIATELY waging a war for revenge, becoming our enemy, and using their tactics; OUR tactics that we TRAINED them to use. If you didn't want the troops at risk, then you should have thought of that before you agreed to kill them. You guys may support the war and the policy, but you "support" the troops like pallbearers.
And if you don't care what other countries think (just as North Korea doesn't), then why should they care what we think? Because if they don't, then we'll show up and kill them all, thus proving them right…again!

Sith,
"And the right needs to realize that the left isn't just the democratic party. Some of us "lefties" (whatever that means) don't need masters. Which is why so many of us oppose blind complacancy to capitalism, corporate slavery, and party politics."
I understand that but it was irrelevant to my point. If it pleases you than feel free to change "the left" to "the democrats".
Secondly,
"Guilty of what, exactly?"
He was guilty of having an affair with Monica, i.e. he did it. Now the point I was making has nothing to do with the fairness or propriety of this being investigated. Once it was out it was beyond his control and he wasn't going to be able to put the genie back in the bottle. At this point he should have cut his losses, admitted it, and allowed the story to be over sooner. Yes the republicans would have milked it for all it was worth. But don't kid yourself the other side would have done the same thing. Coincidentally if he had done this he wouldn't have tried lying to a grand jury which is actually the "guilt" he got into trouble for legally. Admitting it up front would have caused political trouble, but it would have gone away sooner. Admitting it after telling a grand jury he didn't do it got him in legal and political trouble. The point is that Clinton was going to take a hit either way, but the sooner he admitted it the less of a hit his party would suffer. That is what I meant about the Clinton's putting their own success ahead of their party's. If Hillary wanted to do whats best for the party she would drop out. That's not what she is concerned about.
Third, if you believe that "operation chaos" is not having any effect than why do you care what Rush listeners are saying? I'm sure you believe they are mind-numbed robots, or sheep, or whatever.
My point is that democrats need to examine themselves once in awhile instead of whining and pointing fingers at everybody else. They are responsible for their own election rules as well as for the candidates they have chosen.

Ha ha. Yup, and you just proved me right. I wasn't having any problem with the concept, just your irrational definition of love. There isn't anything EMILE said that isn't historically accurate, so what's your point?
Just because we are disgusted with some of the atrocities that this country has committed, doesn't mean we hate America, you simple minded coward. If you get upset with your kid for screwing up, does it mean you hate your kid? I mean, do you not realize that while "discovering" this continent and founding the country, our founders killed almost three times as many people as the Nazis did? If you think that those things are good things, then who really hates America? And if those things are what America really is all about, then why SHOULDN'T we hate it? Because that's not the peaceful, freedom loving, and open-armmedly accepting America that I was apparently lied to about in elementary school.
Good thing you weren't born in Nazi Germany, GRAPHICDAV, or else you would be out mixing mortar for the furnaces.

You won't get any argument from me that both side waste tax dollars on pointless arguments. That's the fatal flaw of a bipartisan system, though for better or mostly worse.
I think I get your point, but you've also made another one that needs to be emphasized as well: You're telling me that Clinton is guilty of lying to a grand jury about a private matter that should never have come before a grand jury, as you admitted yourself? That's your point? What wonderful logic.
As for the part about putting their own success before that of the party, isn't that the same as what corporate CEO's do all the time? Giving themselves unchecked pay raises, while laying of their employees to make up the difference, often driving the company into bankruptcy (granted, in my opinion, ultimately to the benefit of the people and small business owners)? And, by the way, since the parties no longer truly represent the people, then why would I WANT a politician in office the bows down to party group-think?
Op. Chaos: It's not that I don't believe it's having an affect, necessarily. It's just that I'm not going to believe some Rush-puppet who thinks that by simply saying that its working, then it makes it true, which is why I asked for some evidence. I mean, it could just as easily be true that Hillary supporters saw that she was falling behind, and so they came out in numbers greater than they would have otherwise, because they felt they needed to, right? So, instead of allowing the obvious speculation, I simply asked for some evidence to back up the claim. If that's so hard to come up with, then I'm probably correct in questioning the apparently false claim.
Now, as for why I care what the Rush-puppets are saying. It's because Rush makes shtuff up, misrepresents data and information, hand picks just the info to present to his audience that he wants them to have, and wording things just the right was so as to lead them exactly where he wants them to go. Like sheep, yes. This is probably why I haven't been presented with any evidence that Op. Chaos is working, because there isn't any. Rush made that up, too. And since some, if not most, of his listeners only get their "news" from him and Faux News, and don't have enough self respect or foesight to look into it for themselves, to confirm that they aren't being lied to (which they are in most cases. or at least only being told half the story), then they just blindly assume that he knows what he's talking about. That is dangerous, no matter which side of the aisle you're on. 1984 Orwellian, by definition.
Here's an example: Rush once claimed that there is more forest land in the US now than there was when it was founded. Seems pretty straight forward, right? Wrong. Not only is his claim false, but he fails to clarify what he means by forestland. Does he include holiday tree farms:) in those numbers? If he does, then it's deceptive. What about other tree farms, which aren't diverse and are cut down every few years? Is he including those? If not, then he's misleading you. And what about the fact that America NOW is vastly larger than America THEN? Is he truly comparing apples-to-apples, or is he just telling you the parts of the story that he WANTS you to know. I have to ask these questions because he doesn't clarify himself, and you can bet his listeners don't ask themselves these questions. But why would he? It's propaganda, so that would be defeating the purpose.

You can argue about the logic or reasonableness of it but it is irrelevant. I'm neither defending nor condemning it. Its just a fact. Just as the steroid investigation is not something congress should be involved in, the players who are found to have lied before a grand jury will suffer the consequences. It is illegal to commit purgery regardless of the question, ask Martha Stewart. If Bill had stood up, took the hit, it would have been better for the party. Nothing more, nothing less. He chose not to do so and hurt the credibility of his party. No taking one for the team on his part, just trying to save himself. Not good for the party. That same mentality is being demonstrated by Hillary. Not Rush's fault but her's.

Now, here we go again with the "America is so great because we saved the Jews 60+ years ago" crutch. One of these days, we're going to have to do something else good again, so we've got a new excuse for everything we do. I mean, we're talking about a war in which we fought racism using segregated armies, do liberate people from Germany's Jewish prison camps while we were building our own here at home for the Japanese. Honestly, it seems that the only thing we accomplished in WWII was to postpone what YOU now embrace. Even down to the rebuilding of the Berlin wall along the Rio Grande. Oh, but then I'm pretty sure I'm talking to someone who worships a bigoted dis-infotainer who apparently thinks that America's "culture" (as if we only have one) would be completely gutted if people are allowed to actually exercise the First Amendment in Spanish. Would I be happier speaking Japanese or German? I wouldn't know. But since it's just another language, I can't say that I think I would be UNHAPPY. Seems to work out ok for my Japanese and German friends.
It amazes me the way you guys ignore all possibility for a better world, just so you can justify your blind hate. Finally, though, you admit that our government does terrible things! But I wouldn't tell that to Rush if I were you, or else he'll accuse you of hating America and not supporting the troops, you pinko-commie. And your response is "So what?"!? So we say that other people are wrong for doing the exact same things that we do, but it's apparently ok for us to do it? I mean, if America is truly supposed to be some beacon of hope, freedom, and democracy, then maybe we should consider starting to act like it. Maybe then it won't just be a lie and a propaganda slogan, and people other than brainwashed nationalists like yourself will actually have a reason to believe it. Now, if you can just point out where I condemned the whole country, rather than my having simply been criticizing it's repetitively idiotic foreign and domestic policy decisions, I'd love to know. Of course, you can't though, because this is just another example of someone hearing what they want to hear instead of what was actually said.
Oh, please please please, would the news crews FINALLY start showing what goes on in the inner city on the 11 o'clock news. I think the people hiding out in the ‘burbs could use a reminder of the kind of suffering, impoverishment, and desperation that is required in order for them to maintain their unjustifiably, over-privileged lifestyles.
Have I listened to Rush? A few more times than I care too admit, and wish I could somehow delete the memories of it. Honestly, I found him to be hilarious, to a point, because he's so moronic, but also scary because I know there are people out there who are actually stupid (I should say, uneducated) enough to believe he actually has a clue as to what he's talking about. Mostly, I've just read the transcripts he has on his website, and man is he full of crap. And then right at the end, you hit on the biggest lie of them all: Liberal media. In Rush's world, anyone what isn't a Nazi sympathizer is a liberal, and his listeners have been subjected to his propaganda for soooo long that they've actually been convinced that everything else is propaganda. How pathetic! Those other newspapers still are good newspapers, mostly. It's just that your brain used to actually function on it's own without needing to jack in to the Rush mainframe once a day.

LIMBAUGH: On the Republicans' "Contract With America": "The New York Times never ran anything on the contract 'til after the election. The rest of the news media hardly talked about it at all." (TV, 4/6/95)
REALITY: In the 42 days between the announcement of the "Contract with America" and the Nov. 8, 1994 election, the New York Times published 45 articles that mentioned the contract--more than one a day. The Nexis computer database reports that more than 1400 pieces mentioning the contract were published before the election.
Rush:"It has not been proven that nicotine is addictive, the same with cigarettes causing emphysema [and other diseases]." (Radio show, 4/29/94)
Reality: "Nicotine's addictiveness has been reported in medical literature since the turn of the century. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop's 1988 report on nicotine addiction left no doubts on the subject; "Today the scientific base linking smoking to a number of chronic diseases is overwhelming, with a total of 50,000 studies from dozens of countries," states Encyclopedia Britannica's 1987 "Medical and Health Annual."
Rush:EPA rules actually may have caused the shuttle Columbia disaster. It goes like this. They used to use Freon in the ingredients of the foam that they spray on the -- that solid fuel tank. It's that foam that fell off -- that chunks of it fall off, and the second to go shuttle mission created a hole in the wing and led to the disaster on re-entry. They can't use Freon anymore. They had to use something else to cause the foam to bond to the fuel tank, and it was not nearly as good as Freon was. And that's why the chunks started coming loose. And so they came up with some other substance that is a little stickier and causes the stuff to bond better, but it still doesn't work as well as Freon did.
So maybe -- a lot of people are beginning to think that the banning of Freon actually caused the shuttle accident, the Columbia shuttle accident, two flights ago. And I'm inclined to believe it when I hear this.
Reality: Freon was used to attach foam.

Hola Muchacos...
Hey Sith, you said, "There isn't anything EMILE said that isn't historically accurate, so what's your point?"
She starts her post with "our country is God's greatest gift to mankind, liberty and the world." and ends it with "I think you should give it back to god." The stuff in the middle was just some of her reasons she hates America you dope.

Yeah I give up! I guess we should model our country after Cuba! or better yet Zimbabwe. We made both of those countries become what they are? NOT!! Pseudo Intellectuals can blast this country all they want, that is not going to change the nature of man. If you think you can convince a Muslim Fanatic not to cut off you head because your nice and don't step on ants or eat meat you are simply unreachable. If you do not have the sack to protect your self from some one intent on harming you than so be it. I will!! Liberal thought is an oxymoronic term.they are babies that were not spanked enough sorry, your bad! Grow up and quit hating your country!

So you are defending the "god's greatest gift" comment, which sounds a lot like what the Taliban said about their control over Afghanistan, while condeming accurate historical fact, and you are calling me the dope? Think, lambchop. Think. Do you remember what that is like?

Hey, EMILE. Can you clarify your last post? I actually couldn't tell if you were complimenting my post or not (re: "fine post"). Kinda hard to pick up on sarcasm on these blogs sometimes. Just want to make sure there's no misunderstanding...
Posted by sithspawn at 03/31/2008 @ 03:40am
Sith, you're a dope because you don't even realize that I through you down on your original premise. Which you probably don't even remember.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/31/2008 @ 1:17pm
Wow, Emily. you really hate how things are here, dont you? That's sad. everything makes you sick, everyone else is pathetic, blah, blah, blah, etc. It's a shame that your parents didnt teach you to play well with others.
I'm a Nazi? I don't think so. If I were, I wouldn't be able to accept a difference of opinion. Apparently, in that respect at least, you might be more in goose stepping fashion than I.
Oh, yeah to whomever thought I was a neo con. Probably not. Old style conservative.
Go ahead, Emily. That probably grates on you as well.

GRAPHICDAV, I'm still waiting for you to make a point.

SITH... I offered the quote by EMILE because it went at odds with your earlier assertion on "America hating". so it was funny. it seems like such a waste to have to explain it to you, but I'm just nice like that.
It was her quote dude, you wanna argue with her about it be my guest.
Posted by graphicdav at 03/31/2008 @ 5:09pm
GRAPHICDAV, I said I'm waiting for you to make a point because "her" quote wasn't at odds with my statement in any way, you just didn't (and still don't) get my point. You are still stuck on Rush's tired ass "hates America" slogan. And I have a feeling, though maybe I'm wrong, that you've falsely assumed that "Emile" is a she. I have a vague suspicion that it is a reference to Rousseau's 18th century novel about society and the nature of man (something DADDUDE clearly knows nothing about). Or maybe it's a reference to the 2003 Ian McKellan film of the same title. Or maybe, you should realize that "Emile" is a guy's name, as in the star of the upcoming SpeedRacer movie, Emile Hirsch.
Anyway, when you guys say "hate America", what do you mean by "America"? I mean, what aspect of America are you referring to exactly?
America's laws? Most of which I love, though I don't agree with all of them. It is fully within my rights to do so in this country, but that hasn't seemed to matter much since Bush and his minions choose to ignore, distort, or rewrite them.
America's corporatistic monopolies? Or as you would call it, capitalism, which is basically just modernized, neo-fascist propaganda speak for the same thing (per Musollini himself, and he would know since he sort of invented fascism), which some of the founding fathers directly opposed during the Boston Tea Party (corporate monopolies over tea trade in the colonies), and which I suppose, with your twisted sense of "patriotism", somehow oddly makes them traitors in your mind.
America's excessive militarization? Which has been draining our wealth for years, is used as an excuse for why "we can't afford" a national health care system (among other things for our people) the likes of which almost every other industrialized nation on the planet has (democratic or otherwise). Our bloated military budget obviously did nothing to protect us on 9-11, and in all likelihood is currently serving to inadvertently, or maybe intentionally, get us attacked again in the future, since our global military presence is actually one of the biggest, legitimate grievances the "terrorist" have against us and the main reason we were attacked, per bin Laden's own words.
America's government and so-called elected officials? Who have repeatedly ignored the people's voice, appointing whomever they wish not only to positions of power in this country, but to decide for us who we get to vote for, i.e. primaries, and often pass legislation without first, in any way, consulting the people that pay their salaries via taxes?
America's freedoms? I love my freedoms, and am willing to speak out to and against my government, go to jail if necessary, and even lay down my life and bodily well-being in order to protect those freedoms. But that isn't something we've legitimately had to do for a VERY long time, and generally, it is our own government which has been the greatest threat to freedom in this country. Our freedoms, though greatly limited in some senses of the term, are the things that most make this a truly great nation, such as freedom of speech, to disagree with our elected officials, to dissent from the official storyboard of the governmental powers, which ironically Rush (and his drones) hates US for and use as a pathetic excuse for falsely claiming that I hate America?
America's people? This is the big one, because the people of this country are generally amazing people, no matter where they originally came here from, or in the case of the Native Americans, have been here since, nearly, the dawn of man. It the people that not only make this country, but make it great, and have kept it free. But that is true of the entire human race, not just Americans. Often time, if you can or are willing to admit this, it is people in or from other parts of the world that have helped to teach US what freedom truly means.
I fully realize the fact that the following concept may be out of reach of your mental capabilities, there is a difference between hating your country and being able to admit that there are things that your country has done in its history that are disturbing and disgraceful, rather than ONLY admitting to the things its done as a nation which are benevolent and well-intentioned. Thomas Jefferson taught me that much, but I suppose he hated America too, huh? You know, what you call "patriotism" isn't patriotism; it's nationalism, by definition. It's not unpatriotic to criticize your country/government, especially when it's clearly made a mistake, or has taken arrogant steps in a wrong, belligerent direction. If truly patriotic people such as Rosa Parks, MLK, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Paine, among MANY others, had kept their mouths shut and NOT criticized their government for its mistakes while it was making them, we would not have nearly the freedoms that we now have, which, again, I love, but which Bush has been limiting for the last eight years, and for which today's patriots are speaking out, no matter how much you hate them for it or disagree, in order to guarantee that future generations have those freedoms as well.
