What Obama Activism Looks Like

posted by Ari Melber on 02/04/2008 @ 5:37pm

Some of Barack Obama's supporters look exactly alike today. In an impressively coordinated stroke of web activism, Obama activists in several primary states have changed their MySpace profile images to pictures of Obama, with a message urging their social networks to support him. Obama has over a quarter of a million friends on MySpace, and now his California page looks like a scene out of Being John Malkovich:

In the caucus state of Colorado, supporters are using a shot of Obama standing before the Rocky Mountains, with a reminder to hit the caucus site by 6:30pm:

In an independent effort, MoveOn is backing up its recent endorsement of Obama with an online "Endorse-O-Thon," tapping Facebook and other sites to spark person-to-person voter contact for Super Tuesday. Since launching this weekend, the group already broke its first goal of mobilizing activists to send 250,000 endorsement messages to their friends. Now they're gunning for 400,000. "The opinions of trusted friends and family are more persuasive to most voters than anything else," says the official Facebook group.

  8. I saw the headline and thought, "Great, let's talk about Obama's activism, and what that would portend for an Obama presidency". Then I follow the link. So, this is a story about "activism" . . . for . . . Obama's frickin' campaign? There's a word for that kind of activisim: campaigning. And until Obama did it, it wasn't considered a noble pursuit. In fact it was assumed to be self-serving. Jeezus, Ari. You now have the approximate credibility and objectivity of the average Fox news commentator. Get help. Seriously.

Better Tracey Flick than Jim Jones. That story did not end well, if you recall.

    Well, it's newer than "he's a Muslim"...or "he pushes drugs"...or "he's a mulatto".

  13. "OBAMA PORTRAIT MUSIC VIDEO" on Youtube - Don't Miss It!

For those of you who still have not heard:

There is a WONDERFUL and INSPIRING music video on Youtube.com entitled "Obama Portrait Music Video by Bjarne O." You can use the free downloaded high-quality stereo version from the composer's website in DVD form to show at house parties and fundraisers. Even people who knew nothing at all about Obama have been moved: either a thrilling introduction, or further inspiration for those of us who already know and fight for Obama. The music soundtrack, which incorporates excerpts from the famous 2004 speech, can also be downloaded separately in high-quality.

    So please, SPREAD THE WORD!

  14. Gotta admit, this MAGIC CANDIDATE `fad' is quite interesting to watch......He's fortunate to be running in THIS Primary against an unpopular, untrusted, not-self-made WOMAN. Blame it on HRC lacking true accomplishments!

Obama as the Nominee, will have to infect the over-40, those with all of the responsibilities & obligations of adulthood, with his brand of `Magic' to vote w/their hearts and not their brains. It could be done, but should it?

You find Jim Jones offensive? How about Bhagwanshree Rajneesh? Sun Myung Moon? Or maybe Lonesome Rhodes since we're dealing in the political realm?

Obama is going to have a cake-walk over "100 years in Iraq" McCain.

With 70% of the electorate STILL against the war, the Republicans have shot themselves in the head by running only pro-war viable candidates. What a bunch of idiots!

  17. What a bunch of idiots!

    Posted by METTEYYA 02/04/2008 @ 8:22pm

Perhaps.....but us "idiots" are pretty sure we can beat HRC....and, are you just SO CERTAIN, after the Primaries, the Dem Nominee will be so anti-War? You think Magic will pull a `Spain' and immediately withdraw as the POTUS? Assuming you know what Obama won't do, how do the Iraq war make any major difference?

Like most of today's stock prices, with most of the bad news and expectation of further bad news already reflected in the GOP's `stock price', how do you explain the fact that McCain is competitve w/either Obama or Hillary?

The real "idiots" are those that don't acknowledge the weaknesses of their candidates! No need to finger anybody....we all know who here are the idiots-in-blogs!
