See seven minutes of raw, unexpurgated right-wing action from the Conservative Political Action Committee meeting in Washington over the weekend, courtesy of VideoNation:
Michelle Malkin goes unhinged and launches a hysterical tirade into the lens of my camera. I ask Ann "John Edwards is a Faggot" Coulter why she isn't the same person on Sunday morning as on Saturday night. Tom Tancredo fanatics lose their cool when asked about connection between race and immigration, then try to conceal their neo-Confederate paraphenalia. A curiously pale black Republican explains why black Republicans can't get elected. Bob Barr, Grover Norquist and "Flipper," the anti-Romney dolphin, discuss the conservative movement. I receive a special gift from David Horowitz...and much, much more!

hey looney, when one shouts, one is losing the argument. What Maher said was basically if Cheney wasn't around a lot of people wouldn't have died, so very true. If you are a real conservative, vs. say a stealth-neo-con-quasi-fascist like the current illegal regime in Washington, you'd be bashing Bush with us. Will you/all of us wake up in time to realize that you/most of us are being duped by the Global Elite as they take over the world with almost complete media control (thank God for the internet), false-flag operations and barely controlled chaos? check out www.rense.com for more information.

Max, you've certainly touched a few raw nerves by attending CPAC and asking questions about conservative ideas. The reason why conservatives get so mad at you is because they think the hypocrisy game is their's alone to play. No one wants to be revealed as an ass-wipe, which of course Malikn, Tancredo, Coulter and Romney are. I love it that a person, who self identifies as LOONEYLEFTIES, is so completely unhinged by this.
Malkin to her credit, admits errors in her book "In defense of Internment" but is not willing to discuss them with you. She walks away (runs from you). Asking her to sign the photograph probably got that conversation off to a bad start. Her book seems radical and anti-american to me, that is, the idea of defending the internment of american citizens who are also Japanese Americans and Muslim Americans. But the best part was her defense and reason for not discussing her book with you: "I absolutley detest your initiative in trying to smeer my work without even reading it."
So how did the college republicans feel about CPAC this year? "I was shocked to hear Republicans talk about immigrants in such ways" -Stephanie Ponce,College Republicans
Why is Grover Norquist not in jail? His tax exempt non-profit institution laundered money, for a percentage, that Jack Abramoff SOLICITED from his Indian Gambling clients (fraudulently, I would assert) in order to funnel it to Ralph Reed's religious grassroots organization to fight the opening of competing Indian Casinso's. Why is Grover Norquist not in jail?
Max Blumenthal (talk over): "Perhaps the only thing uniting the conservative movement, was its resentment of liberlism and anger at its perceived opponents."
David Horowitz: "What's wrong with you people, are you stupid?... or is your hatred for me such that you just disregard everything I say in order to attack me."
Max Blumenthal:"What do you think it is?"
David Horowitz: "I think that's what it is... I believe you - the left - is driven by envy, resentment, and a ferocious hatred of anybody on the other side. And that's because it's a religious movement that believes that the world can be redeemed, we can end world poverty, we can end racism , sexism and homophobia, if only those damn conservatives would die. And so every leftist has in his heart - is consumed with hate."
Then Dinesh D'Souza gets himself wrapped around his own brain:
"This is liberal cultural imperialism. I mean its ironic the left is accusing of Bush of foreign policy imperialism in Iraq when the left has its own project of cultural imperialism." - Dinesh D'Souza "The Enemy at Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11"
Shorter Dinesh: Conservatism is the natural social order. Don't fuck with it. Military Imperialism is our business, not yours.

Being an FDR Dem for 50 years I see the Democrats of today pandering to many special interest groups in order to maintain the business as usual hold on Washington. As soon as WE get rid of the twisted neocon cabal who have taken this country to its worst nightmare in decades the DEMS MAY revert back to B-A-U!
Horowitz, Norquist, Malkin, Coulter and the rest are just nut ball corporate owned meatsack blabbermouths. They have no viable credibility except with a minority of anti-honesty, anti-American, anti-humanity candidates and republican extremists like Romney, Guliani, Clinton and the rest of the corporate puppets who hunger for power.
The two weakest positions for 2008 of the Democrats with relation to their base is Immigration (Amnesty) and their consensual relationship with the health insurance INDUSTRY and major pharma. They better go for Medicare for all instead of trying to link our countries health and well being to a bunch of FOR PROFIT insurance companies The Democratic base just smells of Republi-con in this respect.
Immigration will be simple if we prosecute corporations for illegally hiring individuals who are not American citizens and who have not legally entered the US. There are not illegal workers in America there are ONLY illegal employers! It's a crime. They need to be prosecuted no matter to whom they donate campaign financing to.
As soon as the liars in the Republican Party figure out a way to present these facts truthfully, which they lack experience at, the dems will loose 20% of that base needed to win.
Then we will be cursed with more of Republican corporate welfare and crimes against the public working class.
Wake up America! When you decide to say NO to corporate lobbyists and power brokers, Big Oil, and Demand Statesmanship from our elected officials, you have a chance! What's worse, our children and grandchildren are going to suffer for generations because of your stupidity and apathy.
Grow some courage if you can and demand MEDICARE FOR ALL, NO LOBBYING, NO WARS FOR OIL, NO CORPORATE INTERESTS IN GOVERNANCE! CLEAN ELECTIONS AND 100% PUBLIC FINANCING OF ALL ELECTIONS.
One more thing. I know Hillary Clinton is registered as a Democrat but she is the head of the DLC, an organization that is as republican as it can be! She is also too heavily involved with the Jewish lobby, well-financed special interests, that are in favor of war with Iran.
Joe Lieberman and John Mc Cain? They just need lessons in honesty and integrity. They may find a how to book on that topic at Wal-Mart. NOT! Ms. Coulter you are not funny at all! I would get a real job as soon as you can find one. Try the army! They have been outsourced but they are looking for a few good ? individuals I hear.
Now get off your butts and start telling the clowns who are not representing you, THE PUBLIC, to go to hell and demand accountability from all no matter what party you think you belong to!
NO MORE GREEDERSHIP IN AMERICA!
Good Night and Good Luck!

When a questioner asked Coulter why she praises marriage but broke off so many engagements, she responded by calling the questioner ugly. Does she know about pots and kettles?
I also note that the number of child-free married couples is up. I guess they should all be forcefully divorced because marriage is ALL ABOUT having kids. Or is this fall out from New Jersey and it's insidious joining of loving couples in matrimony?

Posted by CHIP THORNTON at 03/05/2007 @ 10:35am
ChipThornton You're trying to compare a tiny fringe group on the left with a much much larger group on the right. While there still are some idealistic marxists on the left they're mostly young and will outgrow it.There aren't that many older left wing extremists.Right wing extremists don't seem to mature and outgrow these beliefs, however. Most conspiracy nuts on the left tend to be young while the irrationally paranoid on the right tend to be of all ages.Real communists are a very rare species these days.
Posted by i'm nobody at 03/05/2007 @ 10:51am
I'm Nobody:
I'll mostly agree with you about the age thing, and the right, while they made more sense when they were on the outside looking in ( like D Horowitz's efforts to stop the reparations nonsense) they have grown increasingly intolerant since 2000. Still, I think the Leftists represent more of a fringe. Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, Frankin, Ted Kennedy, (hardly a "youngster") a lot of mainsteam media, Kerry to a lesser extent-all seem to be pursuing neo Socialistic policies, or would if they could. Witness the forced Medical plan in Mass. to name one. Frankly, I think we are in the grip of the Generation That Never Grew Up, and the best thing that could happen to Americans in general is for all these extremists to be taken to an island somewhere far away with an electric fence put around them so they can never get out.
(Including George Bush Jr. who has, with his legalization of certain forms of torture, brought us down to the level of the rest of the world)

Tom Tancredo: ". . if Miami is becoming a third world country".
He can't be talking about economics because the key to the vibrant economic health of South Florida is it's immigrants and it's proximity to the "third world" of South America.
Tancredo is horrified simply of "other" culture and panders to those of a similar mind.
The idea that there is anything "conservative" about a commitment to monoculture in America is ridiculous. There is not the least hint of such a thing in any of America's founding documents.
The fact of the matter is that Tancredo's "conservatism" is itself based in un-American culture that hasn't had any significant following since the 1930's in Bavaria.
Posted by fromredbird at 03/05/2007 @ 12:12pm
CHIPTHORNTON I don't view pseudo socialists as extremists. The veterans administration hospital system is a socialist institution that many anti socialists believe should exist and go to.So both sides do view at least some forms of socialism to be acceptable. If you look at people like Kerry and Kennedy you'll see that their views have mellowed over the years.I don't believe Kerry would have done much to advance any socialist cause had he been elected.I think he would have been your average president that changed little, if anything.I worked most of my adult life in social services and about half that time I worked with psychiatric patients.Extremism in any form(political, religious etc) is,by definition,a mental illness.Too much irrational paranoia.

I'm curious as to precisely what your definition of "extremism" is, to begin with. Also, if extremism refers simply to a political belief, than there's no way you can say that it's "definitionally mental illness." You can certainly disagree with it strongly, as I tend to do, but I don't think that's adequate reason to label it as a kind of mental illness, unless your prepared to make the dangerous step of applying that label to any beliefs that you think are just deeply flawed.
That IS a YouTube video, Frank.
Posted by FROMREDBIRD 03/05/2007 @ 12:15am
Indeed it is, and watching it actually counters some of the description that Max Blumenthal gives. More than anything else, this is the case with the Malkin interview. To try and avoid someone who had come to CPAC uninvited and refused to leave you alone seems entirely reasonable, as does her defensive responsive to his clearly provocative requests and further commentary. This is also true with his interview of the Tancredo supporters; it's one thing to disagree strongly with the extent of Tancredo's advocay, which many people including myself do, but calling them racists without any justification for doing so makes an angry response reasonable, though he was certainly right to press one person who had a Confederate flag lapel.

You call those people "fringe leftists"??? Gore, Clinton and Kerry represent the Republican wing of the Democrat Party. Once upon a time I would have agreed with Dean and Kennedy being characterized as truly liberal, but they have moved to the center with time. Al Franken is the only one to whom your label would stick - and he is quickly evolving into a DLC Clintonoid mouthpiece himself.
By the way - thanks for both your acknowledgement of the torture being committed in our name and your opposition to it.
Posted by bjkron at 03/05/2007 @ 12:37pm
Thrawn I'm not the one that defines "extremism" as a mental illness. It's in the Diagnostic Service Manual that mental health professionals use.It does state in specific terms what constitutes an "extremist" belief that would make it a mental illness rather than just a misguided belief.Typically, irrational paranoia is involved. It involves ones ability to function in the world. Are you hiding in the woods and burying guns in your backyard?Do you have a persecution complex that has no basis in reality?Do you believe that Zionists are controlling everything?Do you believe gays caused 9/11?That sort of thing.

Huge props for braving the crowd and pushing a lot of buttons. These idiots have not had anything like the level of public and media skepticism they richly deserve. If you write a book called "In Defense of Internment" why do you go ballistic when presented with a picture of an Internment Camp? How is it that Ann Coulter can call Edwards a fag and then object to a question about her own private life? When they go unchallenged, they appear to be rational. I really appreciate your chutzpah, it's a great and very useful piece of video...

To try and avoid someone who had come to CPAC uninvited and refused to leave you alone seems entirely reasonable,
You don't need an invitation to attend CPAC.
as does her defensive responsive to his clearly provocative requests and further commentary.
Writing a book supporting the internment of Japanese and Arab Americans isn't provocative? Aren't people who write books on controversial subjects prepared to defend their views?

Personally, it's kind of refreshing to know that Ann Coulter, a woman who thinks she's the Britney Spears of the conservative set, has as much trouble keeping a man as most of us single gals do.
It's also nice to know that I don't know the only men in the world who are willing to give an engagement ring to a crazy woman. I wonder if she got to keep them. Wasn't she also hanging out with David Brock of Media Matters for America for awhile? If she was, that would explain why he decided to come out.
As for Michelle Malkin, I met her at a journalists convention once. I always kinda knew that she was fact optional. Problem is, she'll probably get to keep her book deal despite it. Again, life ain't fair.

"What is this "Jewish lobby" that you're referring to?"
AIPAC ring any bells?
AIPAC is not registered as a political action committee with the Federal Election Commission and does not make campaign contributions as an organization. But its executive committee and board of directors have been reported to include some major campaign donors, and lawmakers considered by the organized Jewish community to be sympathetic to Israel can certainly expect to reap a harvest of pro-Israel campaign contributions.
"Republicanization and increasing hawkishness of the American Israel Political Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has continued apace, with little heed paid to the ramifications of this shift or its increasing alliance with the far right.
Whether AIPAC is good or bad for US foreign policy is a topic of enormous and vitriolic dispute WHICH I AM NOT INTERESTED IN DEBATING AT THIS TIME! I consider them the same as any special interest group meaning their interests before the american public!
Point in fact!"In 2002, the pro-Israel lobby successfully targeted African-American representatives Earl Hilliard (D-AL) and Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) for defeat in Democratic primaries. Hilliard and McKinney were both vulnerable for reasons unrelated to Israel. McKinney, for instance, was defeated in part because the open primary allowed Republicans angered over her comments about the September 11 attacks to cross over and vote against her in the Democratic primary. Nonetheless, their defeat enhanced the impression that the pro-Israel lobby wields great power in electoral politics,"

LET THEM EAT TOFU! February 28, 2007
Even right-wingers who know that "global warming" is a crock do not seem to grasp what the tree-huggers are demanding. Liberals want mass starvation and human devastation.
Forget the lunacy of people claiming to tell us the precise temperature of planet Earth in 1918 based on tree rings. Or the fact that in the '70s liberals were issuing similarly dire warnings about "global cooling."
Simply consider what noted climatologists Al Gore and Melissa Etheridge are demanding that we do to combat their nutty conjectures about "global warming." They want us to starve the productive sector of fossil fuel and allow the world's factories to grind to a halt. This means an end to material growth and a cataclysmic reduction in wealth.
There are more reputable scientists defending astrology than defending "global warming," but liberals simply announce that the debate has been resolved in their favor and demand that we shut down all production.
They think they can live in a world of only Malibu and East Hampton -- with no Trentons or Detroits. It does not occur to them that someone has to manufacture the tiles and steel and glass and solar panels that go into those "eco-friendly" mansions, and someone has to truck it all to their beachfront properties, and someone else has to transport all the workers there to build it. (And then someone has to drive the fleets of trucks delivering the pachysandra and bottled water every day.)
Liberals are already comfortably ensconced in their beachfront estates, which they expect to be unaffected by their negative growth prescriptions for the rest of us.
There was more energy consumed in the manufacture, construction and maintenance of Leonardo DiCaprio's Malibu home than is needed to light the entire city of Albuquerque, where there are surely several men who can actually act. But he has solar panels to warm his house six degrees on chilly Malibu nights.
Liberals haven't the foggiest idea how the industrial world works. They act as if America could reduce its vast energy consumption by using fluorescent bulbs and driving hybrid cars rather than SUVs. They have no idea how light miraculously appears when they flick a switch or what allows them to go to the bathroom indoors in winter -- luxuries Americans are not likely to abandon because Leo DiCaprio had solar panels trucked into his Malibu estate.
Our lives depend on fossil fuel. Steel plants, chemical plants, rubber plants, pharmaceutical plants, glass plants, paper plants –- those run on energy. There are no Mother Earth nursery designs in stylish organic cotton without gas-belching factories, ships and trucks, and temperature-controlled, well-lighted stores. Windmills can't even produce enough energy to manufacture a windmill.
Because of the industrialization of agriculture –- using massive amounts of fossil fuel -- only 2 percent of Americans work in farming. And yet they produce enough food to feed all 300 million Americans, with plenty left over for export. When are liberals going to break the news to their friends in Darfur that they all have to starve to death to save the planet?
"Global warming" is the left's pagan rage against mankind. If we can't produce industrial waste, then we can't produce. Some of us -- not the ones with mansions in Malibu and Nashville is my guess -- are going to have to die. To say we need to reduce our energy consumption is like saying we need to reduce our oxygen consumption.
Liberals have always had a thing about eliminating humans. Stalin wanted to eliminate the kulaks and Ukranians, vegetarian atheist Adolf Hitler wanted to eliminate the Jews, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger wanted to eliminate poor blacks, DDT opponent Rachel Carson wanted to eliminate Africans (introduction to her book "Silent Spring" written by ... Al Gore!), and population-control guru Paul Ehrlich wants to eliminate all humans.
But global warming is the most insane, psychotic idea liberals have ever concocted to kill off "useless eaters." If we have to live in a pure "natural" environment like the Indians, then our entire transcontinental nation can only support about 1 million human beings. Sorry, fellas -- 299 million of you are going to have to go.
Proving that the "global warming" campaign is nothing but hatred of humanity, these are the exact same people who destroyed the nuclear power industry in this country 30 years ago.
If we accept for purposes of argument their claim that the only way the human race can survive is with clean energy that doesn't emit carbon dioxide, environmentalists waited until they had safely destroyed the nuclear power industry to tell us that. This proves they never intended for us to survive.
"Global warming" is the liberal's stalking horse for their ultimate fantasy: The whole U.S. will look like Amagansett, with no one living in it except their even-tempered maids (for "diversity"), themselves and their coterie (all, presumably, living in solar-heated mansions, except the maids who will do without electricity altogether). The entire fuel-guzzling, tacky, beer-drinking, NASCAR-watching middle class with their over-large families will simply have to die.
It seems not to have occurred to the jet set that when California is as poor as Mexico, they might have trouble finding a maid. Without trucking, packaging, manufacturing, shipping and refrigeration in their Bel-Air fantasy world, they'll be chasing the rear-end of an animal every time their stomachs growl and killing small animals for pelts to keep their genitals warm.

Hats off to your galaxy-sized cojones, Mr. Blumenthal. The Nation should organized a busload of people next year to go mess with the right wingnuts on their own tisted turf.

How about some concentration camps for fascist aryans and gooks? How can they protest about having it done to them when they try to explain it all away? Its like Lincoln said about slavery, if you like it so much why don't you try it out on yourself?

Max - I've liked reading your stuff, but after this piece, I think I may be through. It takes what could be legitimate criticism and cheapens it with childish drivel. In showing Coulter's ridiculous comments, you make a legitimate criticism; in trying to embarass Coulter for her broken engagements, you ruin your piece with childish bs. You were no longer above Coulter at that point. In trying to label republicans as racists, you're about as accurate as a republican would be in labeling democrats anti-Christian. There are unpopular fringe elements on the parties that embody these views, but to try to paint the party as a whole that way is just stupid. And David Horowitz represents honest republicans about as well as Michael Moore represents honest democrats. You're writing for a prominent journal. Please grow up and quit doing a disservice to liberals with dignity.

Asking Malkin to sign a picture of a Japanese internment camp is as fallacious as asking a pro-choice advocate to sign a poster of a dead fetus.

more scientists defending astrology than the idea that the Earth is warming?

where did the looney post go? was it that bad?

Liberals want mass starvation and human devastation really?
Forget the lunacy of people claiming to tell us the precise temperature of planet Earth in 1918 based on tree rings. Or the fact that in the '70s liberals were issuing similarly dire warnings about "global cooling."
science - tree rings...good indicator - cooling? yeah, some scientists got it wrong, but there was never the consensus...
Simply consider what noted climatologists Al Gore and Melissa Etheridge are demanding that we do to combat their nutty conjectures about "global warming." They want us to starve the productive sector of fossil fuel and allow the world's factories to grind to a halt. This means an end to material growth and a cataclysmic reduction in wealth.
really? there is so much to rip apart here its pointless...
There are more reputable scientists defending astrology than defending "global warming," but liberals simply announce that the debate has been resolved in their favor and demand that we shut down all production.
not only a lie but a ridiculous lie...

the conservative populist bash rich liberals mantra. laced with lies, half tuths, so whats, and hyperbole...

ah, the old liberals dont know nothing about business thing because they are not randian supply sider nihilists...sigh...
oh god...i cant keep it up. there, LOONY, i guess you are right. i cant respond to your points - they are all basically riciculous hyperbole and lies...perhaps i got bogged down and missed something legitimate, but scanning the rest of ms. coulter's vitriol, any response to anything else in the article amounts to the following...
well, more hyperbole and lies...
and i have better things to do than respond in specific to such absurdity.

what i find so hilarious is the karmic nature of the whole thing. twenty years of those assholes slandering, misquoting, out-of-context lying, outright lying, calling people stupid, un-american, and any number of other names rather than arguing points...gee, and all the "liberal" has to do is ask hard questions and point out the truth...
ahhhhh....poor wittle boohoo babies...

maybe LOONEY can explain the situation within the VA system. VP Howler Monkey says it is the fault of "federal beery-crac-rocy". Now who has been running that for 6 years? Who was in charge of supporting the troops? why isn't LOONEY fighting for Ann in Iraq?

LONNEY, did you know that Rev Cizik thinks global warming is a moral/biblical issue? Is he a lefty? I doubt you even know who he is.

"Evangelicals have recently become a significant voice in the chorus on global warming. Last year more than 100 prominent pastors, theologians and college presidents signed an "Evangelical Climate Initiative" calling for action on the issue. Among the signers were several board members of the National Association of Evangelicals; Mr. Anderson, who has since been named its president; and W. Todd Bassett, who was then national commander of the Salvation Army and was appointed executive director of the association in January." from NYT

"In interviews, some signers of this latest letter said they were wary of the global warming issue because they associated it with leftists, limits on free enterprise and population control, which they oppose."
Hatred of "the left" is more important than scientific theory. Big surprise.

I caught Horowitz's cpac speech on cspan and, holoy cow, I don't think I've *ever* heard such absolute statements about evil liberals and righteous conservatives.
I'm wondering if anyone can point to transcript ot video. TIA.

Yammering morons like ann coulter don't bother me in the least- they are good for a laugh (especially when having pastries hurled in their general direction) and seldom, if ever, make any salient points. What does bother me is "respectable" groups acknowledging and even condoning their blithering idiocy. Seriously, Mitt Romney is supposed to be a serious GOP presidential candidate and he introduces this lunatic with praise? It was virtually guaranteed that she would say something insanely idiotic/offensive, so why step in front of that bus? Surely there are more effectual means of endearing yourself to the fringe right.

The most illuminating comment in this video is Grover Norquist's criticism of Tom Tancredo. Why? Because Grover understands that the base constituency of the Republican party is composed of the rich and that any policy that reduces the price of labor increases the profits of capitalists at the expense of their workers. That's why it's strange to see "liberal" Democrats, in league with Grover Norquist and George W. Bush, promoting immigration policies that lower American wages. Why is it that these so-called "liberals" can't figure out why they are on the same side of this issue with Bush and Norquist?

bwahaha thanks max that was hilarious, what a bunch of clowns. But these are the people ruling America! this truly must be the stupidest nation on earth.

The most disturbing segment for me is David Horowitz talking about liberals being consumed with hatred for all conservatives and joining that with how he thinks the idea of ending poverty and racism is ludicrous. His vitriol was nonsensical.

Max, not only is the video hilarious, but it makes you look pretty hot.
I especially loved the tete a tete with Michelle Malkin, and the pseudo 1950s gumshoe drama way you called "Malkin" after her.
Watching her take heel was great.
I still can't figure out why she wouldn't sign your picture.
Anyways, thanks for the fun.
You should um....totally do more video blogging.
