This shouldn't even be news, but yes, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced she will actually take questions from the press during her quest for the White House, per the AP:

Sarah Palin has agreed to sit down with ABC's Charles Gibson later this week for her first television interview since John McCain chose her as his running mate more than a week ago.... The first-term Alaska governor has given speeches alongside McCain since becoming his surprise pick on Aug. 29. But Democrats have already begun to question why Palin has not been put before reporters to answer questions....

"She's not scared to answer questions," [campaign manager Rick] Davis said on "Fox News Sunday."

You know things are bad when the campaign manager has to explain that a candidate isn't scared of questions. The McCain camp appears to have been caught off guard by the backlash to their attempted press ban, including pushback from reporters, bloggers and Palin's Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden. Yet Palin's first instinct to cower from all press interviews, as I wrote earlier, still provides a revealing look into her character:

She talks tough about reporters, but can't face them; she talks up government ethics, but won't answer an investigation under oath; she raves about her own pit-bull image on stage, but betrays a cowardice under actual pressure. In some ways, she is living out the very caricature that she drew of Obama last week -- all talk, no action -- coupled with the smug attitude of her predecessor, the sarcastic swagger and faux-populism of George W. Bush.

i'll never stop believing they put some kind of tiny wireless reciever in his ear, starting with the kerry debates, so someone can tell him what to say and model correct pronunciation.

in the abovementioned debates it was uncanny how his pauses right before speaking were just long enough for someone with a brain to cue him as to what to say...

But the inherent dangers of letting her be interviewed before she can be brought up to speed and ' synchronized ' could prove fatal politically.

I am not so sure it is she who is the most afraid.

Charles Gibson will not be Sarah Palin's first interview. Greta Van Sustern gets that honor tomorrow night. Davis also said, which you of course fail to mention, that the media will not be running John McCain's campaign and Sarah Palin will talk to the media, on her terms and when ever she wants to.

He has NO basis (for or against) to assume Palin's good in an interview situation.

Zero seems to be the only guy who gets it. Palin is cashing in huge on how the left is playing her.

I would never have believed it just 10 days ago. But the Republicans are going to win this election.

Journalists like Ari Melber are going to make that possible, with his predections of her failure in front of what most americans believe now to be a media biased against her.

Mind you, I do not think Mr. O is actually a Muslim, despite what he may say while being interviewed. He may even be a Christian of some sort, probably a very poor sort. What is abundantly clear, however, is that he is not ready for prime time. Admittedly, Palin is certainly not either, but at least she is thankfully not at the top of the ticket. The pressure of impending failure is perhaps pushing Barky close to the breaking point, which is sad, but only adds further evidence to what has been clear all along--he's not presidential material yet and may never be.

my banning really profoundly tee me off. not so much that it resulted in a blood pressure rise, but seriously nonetheless.

i may have indeed gone too far from time to time, i admit, but at least i think i have been entertaining to those who dont take me too seriously and even more entertaining when some no humor dingdong DID take me too seriously...

and god knows i may have had minor disagreements with the editorial staff in regard to issues from time to time but

a) always made it clear that i loved their mag and respected them even if i differed slightly in opinion AND

b) consistantly defended them against spurious and nasty attacks by rightwing trolls AND

c) consistantly kissed their posteriors a little on top of that just in case...

and then for some unknown reason they up and ban me...

and not only do they ban me, they do so in a profoundly humiliating way, leaving me to sporadically babble at myself (been busy, so did not notice until embarassingly late) and think i was pissing all my old friends off since nobody ever responded to me...

not to mention that i'm pretty sure that to do such a thing involves the dumping of semi malicious software on my lappy since my anti-virus program gets all warny often when i log in here...

but...i'm bigger than that. i see the big picture, have no pride, and would never childishly turn coat over something so petty and silly, so here i am again.

quite honestly for several months i was intermittantly employed, caring for an elderly relative and although i have been blessed with the deaths of some wealthy relatives and have responsibly and cleverly invested my earned money over the years i was in no way giving money to anybody until i was fully employed, as i am now.

and they effin banned me!

In the same time period, an estimated 245 people were shot and wounded in the city.

This is the only nick I have ever been. I have never posted, ever, under any other.

I am new only in that regard.

I have read this blog, in detail and consistently, for just shy of eight years. Lurking, as Mask sometimes liked to call it.

After that period of time, you feel like you get to know people.

After Frosty disappeared during his excessively extended "news break", and with no explanation as to why and nobody seemed to notice, I couldn't stand it any longer and logged in to frickin find out why.

Mask didn't know, though he suspected.

It was IBBLE who knew, and told me why.

Shortly thereafter, Sjchermak pissed Frosty off passed the point of no return, and the rest is history.

All is well again.

Frosty, You've got me there. But, I'd say that is more blues than bluegrass. Roy Clark is more Bluegrass style, and I liked some of his stuff. Tenessee Ernie Ford's Sixteen Tons is also a good song long those lines.

Then there's the bad and the ugly. Dial up some of the country stations in the U.S. and make sure to have the lid to your toilet open so you can ralph up your lunch. That ain't music, it's people singing like someone dropped a friggin piano on their foot.

As an Obama supporter I am also a realist. The polls are out showing McCain has overtaken Obama in the lead. I am despondent because Mr. (911/National Security) Dick Cheny is saying Sarah Palin is ready to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Obama was wrong about this country being America. It is a blue/Red country. The Republican party in it's quest for power and to keep the uber wealthy WEALTHY... The GOP will do anything to stay in power. A shameful party it is and yes I will say evil. They throw cultural wedges out there to blind the less fortunate ignorant. For Obama was a dream that came soo close to reality. I also blame Obama's campaign for not seeing the Palin move coming and in the end it was inexperienced in how to close the deal. I will admit a mistake for the first time and apologize to my brother and sister who were Hillary supporters. For I'd rather had Hillary over McCain & Palin any day of the next 4 long cold years. The Clinton's are it seems the only one's able to fend of the GOP's ugly machine. Don't lok fo much help to Obama from them. They know Hillary can run in 4 years. The election has not been held and i know polls mean nothing except the officila polls on Nov 4th. But the race is ratcheting up and Obama lied to me when he said he would not be swift boated. For Obama has been swiftboated. It will be a vey sad day for me personally on Nov 4th. I look forward to the future and fighting in the second civil war between the Blue & the Red.

Funny about the term "redneck". Depending on what part of the world you are from, one's definition may be different. I was watching the History Channel last week and they were discussing how in WV during the early 20th century, mine workers(?) came together to protest low wages. To show solidarity, the workers involved in the protest/strike wore red bandannas around their necks. Because of the red bandannas, workers were referred to as "rednecks". Did anybody else see the episode. I thought it was interesting that an origin for the term "redneck" can be linked to unionization.

No, that was a definition of "redneck" from Urban Dictionary.

I just use the common definition of redneck, which is a "lower-class racist white person".

Palin can't pick and choose which qualities of the redneck to embrace or not, especially when she names her marketing business "red neck".

She clearly is embracing everything about the redneck, including their RACIST views.

See Financial Times article today by Clive Crook titled "Democrats must learn some respect"

The article is on the mark as to limousine progessives or liberals and their contempt or lack of understanding of the swath of America they advocate for (or use). If Palin were a Democrat she would be a dream progressive candidate -- a Wal-Mart mother fighting for progressive causes. If D's lose this year, the best thing would be for Katrina and Company to move and publish the Progressive from Kansas City or Omaha. Is it hard to be in touch with America from the upper east or west side of New York or the Bay area in California.

Palin, YOU WANT TO APPEAL TO LOWER-CLASS "RACIST" WHITE VOTERS AND THAT IS WHY YOU USE THE TERM REDNECK AS THE NAME OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Redneck is sort of like saying Hockey Mom or Country Music lover. We all know there may be a rich guy or black or two in those groups, but 99% or more are WHITE "and" RACIST.

Yes, I think they will be fun...for the fact that the Right and their Spin Machine (Rush, Fox News, various talking heads) will say one of two things-

1. Scenario A- Palin holds her own, maybe exceeds expectations. "Ha! So much for Biden's genius. She put him in his place and shows she's upto speed on all issues!"

2. (more likely) Scenario B- She barely makes it through, even pulls a "Quayle vs. Bentsen" moment or two. Biden asks her a complicated question on foreign affairs, that she has no pat answer for...or worse, GIVES a blatently pat answer for.

And the Right says "Biden was being condescending!..he was attacking a WOMAN!...he is a sexist pig who was demeaning her!" and various hypocrises, much less inaccuracies.

Right upto Palin saying "Nuke da bastards!" on a question about Iran...you, HAPP, LVLIB, DARIN will defend her debate skills as "Lincolnesque" or Biden's rhetorical destruction of her as the martyrdom of Joan of Arc.

But her actually "win" (by debate class standards) a debate against Biden....dubious at best.

Fortunately for Obama, Palin has other more serious problems with her character, and as this emerges, she will sink the McCain ticket.

Golly Metteyya, I've been to 9 different states this year and 5 countries. So I'm actually getting in some travel.

I even have relatives in *GASP* Tennessee and Ohio and Florida! And they wear... brace yourself... ball caps ALL THE TIME!!!

So tell me, is your entire exposure to red necks limited to the last 20 minutes of Easy Rider, or what? Because that's what it looks like to me.

But you know, when they're not clinging to their religion and guns, they are surprisingly tolerant of people different than them. All kidding aside, sure there are racists amongst 'red necks'. Just like there are racist pastors in chicago, and you know what I'm talkin bout, right?

I just think your racism brush is a bit too broad. It's a frickin roller brush. And I think you are completely missing the obvious problems Obama faces with his character under scrutiny.

My advice, as I've been saying all along, side-step Palin and focus on the issues. You will not win a closet cleaning competition - especially considering Hillary's motivations to see Obama lose.

Or better, ignore the current polls and continue as you are towards defeat.

While that's going on, have you even contemplated what the bailout of Freddie/Fannie means to you personally? And who is protected? (Hint: It ain't the people dude.) And is it a good or bad thing that Obama is FOR this $100B bailout? Do you even know?

Our system is entirely captive to the banking cartel called the Federal Reserve. The bailout occurs over the weekend news cycle and I contest the vast majority of americans on both sides of the aisle are totally unaware of what has just taken place.

We are so screwed. And we don't even know it.

The Federal Reserve was created as a privatized Treasury. Down with big govt. Let private bankers run things, because THEY know best. To do otherwise, that would be "socialism". Govt cannot afford to hire the best experts like a bunch of Wall Street bankers. Worse, it's a private banking cartel with quasi-govt protection, plus mild reporting requirements.

I agree that the Fed should be abolished, but that will not really make a huge dent in how the Constitution was subverted and perverted by ACTIVIST JUDGES to develop "corporate personhood", full civil rights, no personal liabilities, moral hazard, etc.

OK Mr. Gibson, this is your one and only chance to make up for that debacle of a debate from the primaries that seriously called into question your journalistic abilities. The American public has the right to know the person that would be a skipped heartbeat from the highest office in the land. YOU have a duty as a respectable journalist to not only ask the pertinent questions but garner ACTUAL answers and not pre-fab, talking points, stump speech spin. Weigh your integrity and loyalty to your profession, respect to those that came before you and those that aspire to follow against corporate sponsorship and the dogmatic company line. For the sake of my daughter, your children and the general welfare please, PLEASE make the right decision this time and do the right thing.

WASHINGTON - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has charged her state a daily allowance, normally used for official travel, for more than 300 nights spent at her home, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

An analysis of travel statements filed by the governor, now John McCain's Republican running mate, shows she claimed the per diem allowance on 312 occasions when she was home in Wasilla and that she billed taxpayers $43,490 for travel by her husband and children.
