Hillary Booed, Again

posted by Ari Berman on 06/20/2007 @ 11:02am

Last summer, when she criticized the idea of setting a timetable to withdraw US forces from Iraq, Hillary Clinton was met with a chorus of boos at the annual Take Back America conference.

This year was supposed to be different. Hillary now pledges to end the war on her first day in office. But yet again she experienced boos at Take Back America when she put the blame on the Iraqi government for the mess in Iraq.

"The American military has succeeded," she said midway through her speech. "It is the Iraqi government that has failed." That line has become a standard talking point for politicians of both parties, especially Republicans. But the disingenuousness of the argument didn't sit right at TBA.

The reception caused Hillary to go off-script for a moment. "I like speaking here every year," she said. "I see the signs that say get us out of Iraq. That is what we are trying to do."

That seemed to mollify the crowd. And the rest of the speech, where she ticked off a laundry list of Democratic priorities--like achieving universal healthcare, cleaning up government and strengthening unions--played well.

All in all, she did better compared to last year. But it was no honeymoon, either.

  1. And how is she going to get us out of Iraq?

  3. If the Democrats nominate Hillary it will be because they want to lose and I will help them achieve their goal.

  5. Who cares about this group? She is not concerned about the far left kook section, which is well represented here...whats puzzling is why they are constantly surprised by Hillary...The "Take Back America" clowns are the very group most Americvans have been avoiding and protecting the country from..no one right of Kucinich want this group in charge of anything...Hillary knows this...So does America...is won't matter..

Hillarys lead increases over the others(I have already forgotten their names)...Take Back America is trying to Take Back something it never had or will have...the hearts and minds of America I.E.,

of those who make the nation work.

You touched on part of it, JOHN.

If "Take Back America" and the other anti-Hillary left-wing groups CAN'T stop her from getting the nomination in the next 6 months, then they've done TWO very bad things to themselves...

    1. Shown quite clearly that they're essentially impotent and unimportant and easily ignorable.

    2. Pissed off THE major player who has the power to say "yes" or "no" to their agenda items if they become President. (via bully pulpit or veto)

If She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed gets the Oval Office, you think she isn't going to have a list of those TBA guys and a big ol' fat black mark beside the name when it comes to appointments to office...or appointments to COME to her office?

TBA better stop Hillary before the California primary...cuz she sure as hell isn't going to forgive and forget!

  7. BERMAN: Hillary now pledges to end the war on her first day in office.

Even if she wins the WH, I'd say "Show Me"!

I'm not sure even GOD or Rush can "end the war on" HRC's first day in office. Picture this: All American soldiers refraining from shooting back.....even then, just cause we aren't fighting (or even defending) but everybody else is shooting & bombing, the war has ended???? HRC is campaigning to the biggest fools on earth!

  8. She should be booed for blaming the iraqis rather than blaming herself and those Americans who supported the Iraq war...that killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and 3500 Americans and injured and maimed hundreds of thousands others. Millions of Iraqis had to leave their behind to escape the violence. The entire country has been destroyed. We still keep deluding ourselves into thinking that we are the good guys....Look in the mirror of your conscience first.

  9. Puleeze America, remove your heads from your collective anuses and send this piece of corporatized, Zionized, militarized plastic apackin'. One of the many terrible things about growing old is the enhanced ability to see political candidates for what they really are. The current collection is truly demoralizing.

  10. "The American military has succeeded," she said midway through her speech. "It is the Iraqi government that has failed."

Yeah....next time we overthrow a government by preemptive invasion and occupation, let us hope that our installed puppet government will make a smoother transition to being the kind of government supportive of US imperialist interests. Those darn Iraqis. Sooooo unpredictable and uncooperative. Goodness...who would have figured. Its all their fault.

  11. I hope Al Gore runs. He isn't my ideal candidate, but at least I could vote for him without disgust. I cannot say that about anyone else in the race, in either major party. I haven't really liked a candidate since Howard Dean.

You betcha! Hill doesn't forget who brung her to the dance and who stood her up.

Golly, I wonder if Frank is going to get some of that good ole patronage for his unflagging support of our next President. Maybe FEC chair?

Well....all in all.....ya catch more flies with sugar than vinegar so TBA watchout.

  17. I doubt HSUBFOOLS prediction of a Gore run in '08 will happen...but...

if it does, it's going to be FUN AS HELL to watch. The dynamics will be especially interesting where it comes to Bill Clinton.

Gore can run on "new Al" (post-"Inconvenient" Al), but he's GOT to harken back to his experience and accomplishments under the Clinton administration.

Well, that brings up two NASTY memories for the "pure progressives" who love Al (now)....1. his debate IN FAVOR of NAFTA against Ross Perot on Larry King. Every clip can be pulled and put up on YouTube by the Hillary campaign and links on every left-wing blog you can find. (FRANKGRITS will undoubtedly post several here). All showing Al talking about how GREAT NAFTA is going to be and why we need it. Cut to Gore-II (or is it Gore-III or Gore-IV) trying to explain (Mitt Romney style) how "He actually opposed NAFTA, before supporting it".

and 2. Gore shown FAVORING welfare reform.

Meanwhile the large dossier on old Al gets opened. Private eyes start peering at that "carbon credits" company he founded and his "buying off his carbon footprint". And Howard Wolfson with enough dirty tricks to make Donald Segretti look like a guy with a joy buzzer.

And don't forget, she's spiteful. If he DOES "take" the nomination from her, she'll pull no punches to make sure he doesn't enjoy the general election.

    Sounds like fun!

  18. No, we wouldn't be stuck in Iraq. Afghanistan, either. Dean no doubt would have sent Jesse Jackson to find Bin Laden and "establish dialogue" with him, try to find out what we did to him to cause him to engage in such a dastardly yet understandable act.

And our Gov. messes would still be there, just of a different sort. we'd all be broke, and the liberal plantation would still be keeping blacks in chains-After all, Deans' the guy who wants to make sure we never have a "Michael Steele" problem again, ie a black leader who doesn't need Dems to make his way, & who would teach his people the same.

Posted by CHIP THORNTON at 06/20/2007 @ 3:55pm

  19. And, on a more intellectual note, Dean's a loud mouthed pussy with and anger problem :)

What would a red neck like you do if Iranian or Saudi troops were stationed in the US? How would you react if the Iranian government manipulated the US government? What would all these inbred, fundamentalist hicks do?

Failing to comprehend your enemy's motivations makes you impotent, weak. The best way to treat lung cancer is to not smoke.

Speaking of loud mouthed pussies, what about the war dodging President and Vice President we have in the White House. They like to talk tough, walk around like some John Wayne wannabe.

  28. When you have the far right loons ranting about Hillary, and you have left wingers booing her, you know she's on the right track...how sad and pathetic are those on both fringes who engage in a sick and absurd obsession to trash her every move. Says more about them than her. Let's face it, these losers would bitch and whine about her if she read the white pages aloud.

It's just that many mentally-challenged posters, like Empty "Red Neck", "Mulatto"...experts, are on my Ignore list....though I see bits and pieces of their Empty `work' when good folks like you slap them...leaving me at times, when times permit, to amuse myself by guessing which Empty is on the loose!

  32. Ok, got you. You know, though, HAPPY, you should really dump the ignore thing. You can do what you want of course, but my own personal feeling is, and I've said this to some of the more "angrily vocal" writers on here :) that the ignore button is kind of a cop out, the cyber equivelant of sticking your fingers in your ears and going LALALALALALA. After all, if we come on here to express divergent views, what good does it do to ignore what we don't want to hear. When they attack, hit 'em back! :)

It's really a matter of using my time! The Nation is more time-consuming due to the breath of issue coverage, which is a good thing, vs. just Corn.com where my blogging `career' began! I don't put people on ignore w/out some warnings, w/very rare exceptions....wrt the WWIII fellow and his cohort.

"When they attack, hit 'em back! :)"

Not unless their intelligence is worth, again, my time! Since they are ignored, I made final rulings on them already! Now, I am able to keep up w/the flow relatively easily by dropping in often but not commenting often! I work, really, during the day, well. till ~3pm CDT, even w/out anybody monitoring my time-stealing....
