Peacecraft has served the New Mexico community for eighteen years, providing beautiful handmade crafts from the developing world. Peacecraft purchases them either directly from cooperatives or from alternative trade organizations. Sixty percent of the regular price of everything is returned to the cooperatives, giving the producers a fair income.

'Be a yokel, buy local" is the proud slogan here. The Bozeman Food Co-op sells organic produce, dairy and meats along with bulk items, convenience foods and vitamins. It's also a center of political activism, especially when it comes to agricultural issues.

  • Nation Guide: Roasted Oysters in Charleston

    By The Nation

    2008-11-13-FBcabinet.png

At Bowen's they shovel piles of roasted oysters on your table, or you can get shrimp and other seafood. The restaurant isn't much to look at, that's for sure, but the food is wonderful. Even the sides - fries and cornbread hush puppies - are excellent. The shrimp are large and lightly breaded, served on a disposable plate out on the deck (or inside if you're there in the cooler months). They have other food, too, depending on the catch that day, but don't miss the shrimp. [or the oysters, or the fries...]

Seeped in history, Manuel's is the site of Jimmy Carter's announcement that he would run for governor of Georgia and the location of the famous "God is Dead" conversation among Emory theologians in the 1960s--original owner Manuel Maloof's ashes rest in an urn behind the bar, just behind the big portrait of FDR.
