The View From Invesco

posted by Christopher Hayes on 08/28/2008 @ 6:30pm

The line into Invesco stretches for several miles. People are standing in line with children and grandparents, and buttons and t-shirts and bottles of water an though the logistics are nightmarish - there's a freight train running through the line - the logistics have been remarkably smooth, and good cheer persists. I just walked into the stadium and the enormity of tonight's crowd hit me: this place is mammoth.

As for the inane charge that this event carries "risks" because, well I dunno, because the McCain camp said it does, I have on question? I saw a young African American father on the line behind me with his 8-year old daughter skipping along behind him. The man was racing so fast his daughter was struggling to keep up he was so excited. Exactly what is objectionable about letting this man and his daughter in to see this speech?

  2. I'm gonna go wwwaayyyyy out on a limb here and predict the pundits will say something like this about Obama's speech tonight:

"Obama set the bar extremely high for himself choosing this venue. But its was clear he met and exceeded any of our expectations. This has to be considered one of greatest if not THE greatest speeches of all time."

  4. "The reason you have credit cards you can't afford to pay is a direct result of GW Bush's policies"

Umm.... so much for a speech that rivals the Gettysburg Address.

  5. So Obama thinks he can make American politics work! Wisful thinking! Current American attack politics (who says Obama doesn't know how to attack?) is the most effective in the world and at all times. Without attacking the enemy you won't get anything done.

    ----------

Obama says he can repair "broken politics": Obama Takes Aim at Bush and McCain By ADAM NAGOURNEY and JEFF ZELENY DENVER -- Barack Obama accepted the Democratic Party presidential nomination tonight, declaring that the "American promise has been threatened" by eight years under President Bush and that John McCain represented a continuation of policies that undermined the nation's economy and imperiled its standing around the world.

The speech by Senator Obama -- in front of an audience of nearly 80,000 people on a warm night in a football stadium refashioned into a vast political stage for television viewers -- left little doubt of how he intended to press his campaign against Mr. McCain this fall. And he linked Mr. McCain to what he described as the "failed presidency of George W. Bush" in cutting language that seemed intended to reassure nervous Democrats that he had the spine to take on what has proven this summer to be a scrappy Republican opponent.

  6. My favorite line so far...

"what type of judgement does it show that you thought George W. Bush was right 90% of the time?"

    LOL

  7. The GOP should ask Obama where he was when Bush was making 90% of his decisions.

Well.....I was a state senator...but but but I disagreed with Bush from my state house.

It's easy to compare records when you don't have one.
