Campaign 08 The Clinton Campaign is Broke

posted by John Nichols on 05/07/2008 @ 9:16pm

Don't misread the reports that Hillary Clinton has fronted her presidential campaign another $6.4 million.

This is not onward-to-victory money.

This is keep-the-lights-on money. And it has already been spent.

While Barack Obama's campaign remains flush with cash, Clinton's campaign is, like a lot of America, living from paycheck to paycheck.

And the paychecks are being signed by the candidate.

As with the $5 million Clinton contributed to her effort earlier this year, the latest checks from the candidate's personal account -- $1 million last week, another $425,000 on Monday -- were immediately cashed by the vendors who have always seen this particular campaign as a political gravy train.

Despite the fact that Clinton's camp reported raising a remarkable $10 million online after her muscular Pennsylvania primary win on April 22, her campaign never banked enough money to get ahead of its creditors going into Tuesday's Indiana and North Carolina primaries.

Only Clinton's cash kept her campaign on the air with television ads, and in the air jetting from airport tarmacs in Indiana to airport tarmacs in North Carolina.

She needed -- really, really needed -- wins in both states to raise the money to go on to critical contests in West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, South Dakota, Montana and Puerto Rico.

Instead, she took a beating in North Carolina and barely escaped Indiana with a tie.

Now, Clinton's further behind than before in the delegate race.

She's fallen back in the popular-vote competition.

And, perhaps worst of all in this era on money-driven politics, her campaign is broke.

The candidate is a wealthy woman. She can write a few more checks.

But she cannot write a big enough one to reverse her political fortunes.

Crazy he might actually try diplomacy instead of threats.

if you believe so much in "little government",

and with those wacky "tax'em'n'spend'em" devilcrats in control,

why not give away any extra you would have to pay(,) to charity, pre-tax?

you'd be like the president and congress and supreme court all rolled into one.

    you know what "zakat" is?

    <i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i><i>

Zakaat (Arabic: زكاة‎ zakaat or zakāh, meaning 'grow', 'purify', or 'foster') is the Islamic concept of tithing and alms. It is an obligation on Muslims to pay 2.5% of their income to specified categories in society when their annual wealth exceeds a minimum level (nisab).

    here,

figure out how much allah (peace be upon us all!) says you gotta give:

I don't think it will be that. He will keep a strong military but instead of starting out with threats he will negotiate first. Bush starts out by saying "do what we want or we will bomb you there is no negotiation." He doesn't attempt diplomacy. I want a President who keeps a strong military but tries to talk before the threats start.

and because the bearings are shot because lazy, greedy people wouldn't pay for maintenance.

<i>"Well, let's go get another motor. I hear the Chinese make 'em real cheap. C'mon let's get go."

"Dude, you think they'll recycle the old one"

"Doubt it. Too full of toxic crap. Let's go."</i>

How un-American. Instead of keeping a business here for land and country you would rather send it somewhere. Repubs call us America haters but the "business man" on the Republican side would sell out their country and countryman to make a buck. Prove by the fact that they will decimate a town to move their businesses overseas so they can use slave labor.

This is my problem. Yes investors create jobs. They also destroy them. They are equally responsible for the family doing well and the family on the streets because the ONLY reason the family is doing well and not on the streets is the the fact that the place they are working at is still pumping in cash. The SECOND it doesn't make a profit they ditch it and put that family on the streets too. They don't care about their country they care about their money. If they can't squeeze another buck out of their country they will go somewhere else without hesitation. The true Americans to me are the companies who stay here to make a buck no matter what. The companies who aren't just fair-weather fans. Those are true Americans. If you are willing to, at the drop of a hat, outsource a job overseas then in my eyes you are not a true American.

You may call us America haters Happy but we contribute to this country no matter how bad things get. Investors have no true loyalty. Their loyalty is to their money. Whether it's to Dollars, Marks, Euros, Yen or Yuan.

And no Happy, before you give your typical response of me despising people who make money, I don't have any problem with people who seek to make money. I have a problem with people who's only concern is making money. Who will step over anyone to make a buck. You say you contribute more to the US than anyone because you create jobs. However what is your reason? Is it because you love the US? Or is it because the job you create makes you money? To me the ends does not justify the means and the end nor the means is good unless the reason is good.

Problem is most of Hollywoods employees are in the US what are you talking about is different than what I am talking about. You are talking about foreign INVESTMENT. I am talking about American companies with US employees and factories shutting down their factories and moving them overseas. That's not foreign investing and that's not selling your product in another country that is outsourcing. I am fine with you selling your product in America as well as other places but leave the jobs in your own country.

Also before you try to make snap judgments I have worked for charities as well as given money to them. I try to donate time and money to people other than myself. The only reason I spend a lot of time on here is because its what goes on on the side when I am at work to give me slight diversion from staring at footage all day. So try to not come to snap judgments about me you guys have tended to always guess wrong. I DO give my fair share to other people whether you believe it or not.

  14. I just don't feel the need to talk about my service because it's not for me and it's not about me so why should I try to impress others with it?
